Anita Tijoux, French-Chilean hip-hop artist and Latin Grammy Award winner, will perform at the Yerba Buena Gardens tomorrow, Saturday, August 3rd, 1-3 PM.
In the San Francisco Bay Area hip-hop and rap scene, this accomplished artist has a large following and a loyal fanbase.
In 2010, I met Anita Tijoux, a then up-and-coming hip-hop artist, at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley. La Peña is a renowned venue for launching careers. That night, Anita Tijoux shared the stage with Funky C and local Chilean DJ Juan Data.
Since then, her career has skyrocketed, resulting in 3 Grammy Award nominations for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album:
- in 2011 for "1977"
- in 2013 for "La Bala"
- in 2015 for "Vengo"
In 2014, she won the Latin Grammy Award, Record of the Year, for "Universos Paralelos."
Anita Tijoux, who lives in Chile, frequently tours major cities.
