The Worcester Business Journal’s annual “40 Under Forty” list, comprised of the region’s top young professionals includes Anna Maria alum, Mike Matros '13.
Alumni Spotlight: Chizoma Nosike, '99G

Chizoma Nosike, '99G was recently featured in a Worcester Business Journal article focused on minority-owned businesses that were not prioritized for PPP loans despite a federal mandate.
Anna Maria Golf Tournament
The 11th annual Anna Maria Golf Tournament was held on Monday, September 14th at Sterling National Country Club in Sterling, MA. More than 100 golfers participated in this year's tournament.

First place honors went to the team from Rockland Trust; the Country Bank foursome came in second and Anna Maria Trustee Steve Yerdon's foursome came in third place.

Longest drive honors went to Jim Cozza and Sue Gardner. Closest to the pin winners were Susan Farisa and Dave Keller.

Thank you to all the golfers who came out to support this year's tournament. Proceeds will support Athletics and Scholarships.

Anna Maria Receives Funding from 3 Local Foundations

  • The Blanche M. Walsh Charitable Trust awarded $4,000 to provide scholarships to students with unexpected financial need.
  • The Highland Street Foundation awarded $37,500 for Anna Maria's First-Year Persistence Through Peer Mentoring Program, which provides upperclassmen and faculty mentors to freshman students.
  • The Fairlawn Foundation Fund awarded $37,500 for its Fairlawn Psychology Pipeline Expansion Program, which is working to increase the number of mental health care workers in the region.

Class Notes
Weddings

Anna Maria's Director of Student Activities and alum Lizette Zajko, '12 wed Andrew Reid on August 8th at the University of Rhode Island, where the couple met during grad school. Alex Zajko, '18 was the maid of honor and there were several Anna Maria alums on hand to celebrate this special day. Suzy Pekar, '17 was the day's official photographer. They will be celebrating with a reception in the Fall of 2021. Congratulations Lizette and Andrew!

Alumni Standouts

Karen Ares, '00G has been announced as the executive administrator of the Blackstone Valley Education Hub. Karen a former high school science teacher and was the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning and STEAM director at the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District. Congratulations Karen!

Elior North America announced the promotion of Keith Cullinan, 89G to the Charlotte-based culinary management company's chief operations officer. Cullinan brings more than 40 years of experience within the foodservice management industry to the new role. Way to go Keith!

Jake Kardash, '13 was recently promoted to Lieutenant of the Troy Fire Department in New York. Congrats Jake!

Alex Guardiola, son of Elvira Guardiola, '93 was recently selected as one of the Worcester Business Journal's 40 under 40 in 2020. Alex is Director of Government affairs and public policy for the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Obituaries

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Martha Harding, '57 and Janet Arcieri, '59. May they rest in peace.
