Dear Sullivan Families,
We had a great last week before winter break, kicked off by our all-district staff meeting. It was wonderful to be able to go out into the community and spend some time with kids and parents while spreading some seasonal cheer! We love connecting with our community, and this was a great opportunity for us to get out of the schools and into the neighborhoods.
Our kids and teachers have been working so hard for this first part of the school year, and we are proud of how much our students are growing and what they have accomplished. I know we are all looking forward to a well-deserved break, and to slow down and spend time with family and friends. I am looking forward to my oldest returning home for the holidays, and having both of my kids under the same roof for the first time since August! I am also looking forward to my winter break traditions of making pierogis with my Dad, opening gifts with my kids, and cooking dinner with my friends.
No matter which holiday you celebrate at this time of year, I wish you and your family the gifts of joy, peace, and time together. Have a wonderful winter break, and we look forward to seeing your kids on Tuesday, January 4th!
Warmly,
Traci Meziere

Please note that we begin letting students into the building at 8:15 AM. We ask that you do not line up prior to 8 AM to allow the MacArthur buses and cars to drop off their students.
- Our pick-up line begins shortly after the release of school at 2:25 PM.
-
All cars entering off Schoenbeck MUST enter the lot from the northernmost entrance near Palatine Road.
- Please do not drive into the bus pick-up and drop-off area of the parking lot.
- If you arrive after the car drop-off entrance has closed (8:30 AM), you must park in the visitor parking in front of the Admin building near the corner of Palatine and Schoenbeck, and walk your child across the parking lot.
- Please drive carefully and follow the directions of our staff. They are working to ensure the safety of ALL students and staff.

As we move into the cooler months, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Elementary students have outdoor recess whenever possible. Students perform better when they get outdoors, even if only for a few minutes. We follow the recess guidelines below:
- Outdoor Recess: 10 degrees F and higher (including wind chill)
- Inside Recess: below 10 degrees F (including wind chill)
When the weather turns snowy, students must have boots, gloves and snow pants to play in the snow. Those who don’t must stay on the blacktop area. Parents should assist children in preparing and wearing appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.

Mythology
Living
Museum
As a culminating project for their Mythology study in literacy, Mrs. Broms' class created a living museum to introduce their guests to important mythological figures. The students researched, wrote summaries, and designed and created sets and costumes for the performance. We love our students' creativity!

Core Plus
Fourth and fifth-grade students have worked very hard in Mrs.Ganek’s Core + groups. They have become experts at writing attention-grabbing hooks. Students have also enjoyed working on logic games and puzzles during brain breaks

District 23 teachers teamed up to visit community bus stops and our after-school program this Monday to interact with our students and families and hand out some sweet treats!
It was wonderful to be out in the community and see so many kids and parents outside of school.

The students in Mrs. MacTavish's class spent time this week learning about different holidays celebrated around the world (Hanukkah, St. Lucia Day, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Las Posadas). After discussing the meaning of each holiday, students played games and made crafts related to the holday.

My child is vaccinated...Now WHAT?
Students who are in close contact with a COVID positive individual 14 DAYS PAST their 2nd Dose do NOT have to quarantine if they are asymptomatic.
We are asking parents to share their child's vaccination card directly with the school nurse so that we can begin to track vaccination status and continue to limit the number of exclusions.
Copies of vaccination cards can be emailed directly to the school nurse or sent to school with your student.
