Panther Post

March 1, 2024

Dear Sullivan Families,

Happy March! It was great to have our first full week of school and get back into our regular routines. March brings the start of state testing, and our specific testing dates for the IAR and ISA tests are listed below.

March also brings some exciting school and district events as we come up to our spring break. We are looking forward to the Sullivan musical, our Spring Band and Orchestra concerts, and of course, Family Fun Night. Over the past weeks, we have enjoyed seeing families at Heritage Night and Family Night at the library!

If you have not done so already, please take a minute to fill out the 5Essentials Survey. We need a minimum of 20% of parents to complete the survey, and we are only at 3% as of today. The survey is open through March, so please take some time to provide feedback and help us make Sullivan an even better place to learn!

Read on for information about:

  • 5Essentials Survey
  • State testing dates
  • St. Baldrick's Fundraiser
  • Spring Chorus
  • Spring iPad Collection

Enjoy the weekend!

Sincerely,

Traci Meziere

State Assessments

Sullivan students will begin state testing in March! Our 5th-grade students will take the Illinois Science Assessment on March 13-15. All Sullivan students will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness on March 20-22 and April 8-9. Please make sure your child's iPad is fully charged, and support them in getting plenty of sleep and eating a healthy breakfast on the mornings of testing.

Sullivan Snapshots

Thanks to our AWESOME PTO and the Prospect Heights Public Library for teaming up to host an out-of this-world event last night!

It was great to see so many students and families enjoying a read-aloud from Dr. A, crafts, and of course cookie decorating! We are so grateful for our family and community partnerships in D23!

Our 4th grade students participated in their first-ever wax museum this week as part of their study of biographies! Students researched an influential person, wrote a summary of their life and accmplishments, dressed the part and presented their work to parents and classmates. Thank you to our 4th grade teachers for guiding our students through this valuable process!

Two of our Sullivan students were honored today at the Illinois Principals' Association Student Recognition Breakfast. Cameron and Daisy were chosen to represent Sullivan for demonstrating responsibility, pride, dignity, respect, dedication, and positivity. These students are wonderful examples for their peers and all-around positive people to know.

St. Baldricks

The MacArthur Student Senate is again organizing a fundraising event to support St. Baldrick's! Students can choose to raise money and become a shavee, or purchase green hair extensions. Join with other D23 students to conquer childhood cancer! Click on the link to download a waiver and registration packet, or have your child pick one up in the Sullivan Office!

Spring iPad Collection

Spring Break is three weeks away, and our student iPads are getting ready for a beach staycation, minus the beach! As we prepare for Spring Break, teachers will be collecting iPads and working with the Tech Department to again make sure iPads are updated and working. Specifically, for 4th- and 8th-grade iPads, the Tech Department will inspect those over Break as those iPads will be turned in at the end of the year for recycling. For all students, this ensures they will come back to a working iPad after break, and we hope it is one less thing you have to find on a counter at home. Starting next Friday, students will see a version of the wallpaper below, just giving them instructions for how to prepare for the Spring Break staycation. Parents, please do check to see if your child's iPad is fully updated, to 17.3 and above.

Panther Expectations
