Panther Post

March 18, 2022
Dear Sullivan Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in our final trimester of the school year! We still have lots of learning to do in these last months of school, but we are so proud of how much our kids have grown so far this year. As our School Improvement Team shared at the Board Meeting last week during the State of the School Presentation, our students made higher than expected growth on their winter benchmark testing, most notably in reading. We are proud of the culture of reading we have at Sullivan, from the grade level book challenges to the library genre challenge to the novel studies going on in the classrooms. We are excited that it is time for our last reading challenge of the year: The Battle of the Books. As you will see in the classroom snapshots, Mrs. Yager and our students have been getting ready for the Battle this week in the library.

Keep on reading for information about:

  • Traffic pattern changes for drop off and pickup
  • IAR Testing
  • Yearbook Orders
  • Classroom Connections
  • Pawsitive Panthers
  • Community Resources

Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Sincerely,

Traci Meziere

Battle of the Books
This week in library we have been planning with the Battle teams. Each team has a Google Slide to keep track of which book everyone is reading. All students must read 3 books to participate in the Battle, but to make sure all 20 books are read, most students are reading 4-5. Anyone who reads all 20 will join Mrs. Yager for a pizza party. All information can be found in the announcement section of the library class on Seesaw.
4th Grade
Students in Mrs. Mkrtschjan and Ms. Slowik’s classes finished their science unit, The Birth of Rocks. As a cumulative project, the two classes worked together pretending to be geologists. Partners investigated four different types of rocks and paired each rock with a location it could have come from. Students used information and vocabulary learned throughout the unit to complete their investigation.
Pawsitive Panthers
Mary has worked very hard to keep up with the demands of her schoolwork and the musical. She is respectful and comes to school every day with a smile on her face. Mary is a Pawsitive Panther!
Derek is a Pawsome! He is hard-working, helpful to others, and a wonderful leader in our class. Not only does he participate in our classroom but he also gets involved in school activities to support our school, like being our classroom ambassador. Derek is a pawsome panther in our classroom.
Diane is kind and respectful. She has been working very hard in class. She has started participating more frequently and is a great example for her classmates. I am proud of how she challenges herself to try her best and grow as a learner. Diane, you are Pawsome!
Harper is a true Pawsitive Panther! She is kind, respectful, and helpful to all. She comes to school with a smile on her face, ready to learn. Harper works hard and it shows. She is a Pawesome Panther!

Traffic Study - Plan for Trial in Spring

The traffic flow at each of our schools is challenging at best, and unsafe at worst. Administration presented the results of a traffic study and a proposal for a trial of a new Drop-off/Pick-up procedure. The presentation can be found at this link.

We will implement a two week trial period on April 4th. Bus and car traffic at Ross and Sullivan will be redirected to make better use of our parking lots to remove traffic from Schoenbeck and ease congestion in the lots. The graphic below highlights the change in traffic flow.
Please be advised that the Prospect Heights Police Department have designated and will be ENFORCING new No Parking areas on some of the streets across from Ross/Sullivan off Schoenbeck.
