Pan American World Airways launched the first 747 service, with an inaugural flight from New York to Paris in 1970.

The legacy of Pan American World Airways and its visionary founder, Juan Trippe, embodies the most significant events in the history of commercial aviation. From the pioneering "Flying Boats" that spanned the Atlantic and Pacific, to the launch of the Jet Age, Pan Am epitomized technical superiority, sophisticated in-flight services and a pioneering spirit that opened new opportunities for tourism and commerce in the most far-flung corners of the world.

Pan Am folded its proud wings in 1991, but the World's Most Experienced Airline is not forgotten by its employees, who have, in just a year, raised more than $100,000 for the Pan Am Museum Foundation.  Its goal is to build a museum that will pay tribute to Pan Am's legacy and the people who built this legendary airline.  I am honored to announce that Anne Sweeney Public Relations has been selected to handle communications and media outreach for this visionary project.

The Museum Mission

The Pan Am Museum Foundation was formed last year as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization by a group of dedicated and enthusiastic former Pan Am employees, with the goal of establishing a museum to honor the most influential airline of the twentieth century - Pan Am!  A Pan Am Museum will serve as a permanent historical and educational institution protecting and archiving its artifacts and displaying them to illustrate the significant achievements of Pan Am.

The first phase of the Pan Am Museum will feature the Boeing 314. Pan Am pioneered these legendary "Flying Boats," that spanned the Atlantic and Pacific.in the 1930s.

The Pan Am Museum Foundation is in the process of designing and constructing an initial Pan Am Exhibit to be launched in a dedicated Pan Am Wing at the Cradle of Aviation Museum on Long Island, New York. This exhibit, to be launched at a gala event on December 3, 2016, will tell the Pan Am Story, detailing its unique and remarkable accomplishments and contributions to aviation throughout its history.

The story will begin with the Boeing 314 "Flying Boat" and later the Boeing 377 "Stratocruiser," Boeing 707 "Jet Clipper," and Boeing 747 "Jumbo Jet." The exhibit will include aircraft models, photographs, uniforms, films and newsreels, as well as in-flight catering and other aircraft cabin items. Route maps, timetables, posters and additional Pan Am marketing material will be included. A virtual reality feature is also under development. The design and build-out of this initial Pan Am Exhibit, employing museum designers to create an exhibit worthy of the Pan Am name, is estimated to cost approximately $100,000.

The Golden Age of Air Travel
Anne Sweeney on the steps of a
Pan Am Boeing 707, circa 1968.

As this exciting project unfolds. there will be much to report about the Pan Am legacy and The Golden Age of Air Travel.  As many of you know, I was privileged to be part of that era as a Pan Am stewardess, from 1964 - 1975 and later on the staff of the Corporate Communications Department. With other former Pan Am flight attendants, I have been interviewed as part of documentaries and articles about that very special time when the journey was as exciting as the destination. Pan Am helped to define "The American Century" and public interest in that dynamic and exciting period is growing.

In promoting this exceptional project, I will be sending out current news, providing historic photos, and offering suggestions for interview subjects
and stories you may be interested in pursuing.  Please contact me at 732-329-6629 or at aspubrel@aol.com..

For many former Pan Amers, supporting the Pan Am Museum Foundation is a
wonderful opportunity to thank our beloved airline for the opportunity to experience a wider world and to be part of aviation history and a proud extended family. But people everywhere can be grateful to Pan Am for its pioneering efforts, technical achievements and vision that shaped aviation and opened a brave new world to international travel.

I look forward to introducing you to the proud legacy of Pan American World Airways.
