Inaugural Padanaram Halloween Parade attracts over 100 people
Jane Folkman, Diana Fairfax and Vicki Bancroft, it's never too late to don costumes and have some Halloween fun.
When the three heard about the first ever Padanaram Halloween Parade on October 31, they couldn't resist. They brainstormed costume ideas, and, being members of a Padanaram-based kayaking group, decided to stick to a nautical theme and soon arrived at pirates.
"You should have fun no matter what age you are," Fairfax said. "Plus, the parade didn't say it's only for kids."
They were three out of well over 100 people who attended the inaugural parade, sponsored by the Padanaram Business Association. Covering a route on Elm Street from the Sail Loft to Prospect Street, the parade featured plenty of candy, as Padanaram business owners lined the sidewalks handing out candy and goodies to passing trick-or-treaters.
Joining the parade decked out in a witch costume was Padanaram Business Association President Anne Whiting. She was overjoyed with the turnout of the first ever parade, which she had only really advertised on social media.
"We had thought about it for years but didn't decide to actually do it until this year," Whiting said.
Whiting added that the event would not have been possible without help from Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 and the Dartmouth Police Department, along with the Dartmouth Middle School band, which led the parade with music.
Whiting hopes to see the parade return next year given how well received the event was this year.
