How you've helped your neighbors in need on their road to self-sufficiency.
Cooking Matters class helps be prepared for medical needs

Annie* used to come to the Food Pantry regularly but had stopped because she moved to an apartment with more affordable rent enabling her to be self sufficient. She returned to Beverly Bootstraps when she enrolled in our Cooking Matters class which teaches the benefits of healthy eating and cooking on a budget instead of the often consumed, lower costing, processed and packaged foods.

She was excited to discover that you can make soup with broth and leftover vegetables and some seasonings. Over the next few months, she would tell us about all her cooking experiments and how well they had come out as she tried new ways to cook, and had learned the kinds of healthy foods to buy.

Since then, Annie has had some fairly serious health problems that caused her to be out of work a lot. So she began using the Food Pantry again to be able to keep up with rent and utility payments.

But even better, when she discovered she had to give up salt and sugar to help reduce some of her symptoms, she knew just what to do! She now knows how to use herbs and spices to make more flavorful foods -- and even fruit desserts -- without salt and sugar.

Your supports makes it possible for us to help our clients become self sufficient. Thank from Annie and from Beverly Bootstraps!

Volunteer to prepare snack bags

Families are often looking for ways to teach their kids about giving back over the summer. Consider volunteering to prepare snack bags for children right here in your own community. Purchase kid snacks and bring them to the Food Pantry to create snack bags. Then take a tour to learn how we help those in need and why it is so important to support the community.

Email Leslie Colten , Volunteer Coordinator, or call 978-927-1561 for more information or to schedule a time.
