Chris Hammer books

We at Annie’s Books are all fans of Chris Hammer’s writing! “Scrublands” started the journey; a terrific, simmering crime novel which paved the way for “Silver” and “Trust” - all excellent books. “Treasure & Dirt” was another cracker, set in the opal fields of NSW, but “The Tilt” may well be Chris’s best novel yet!

Chris Hammer was a journalist for over 30 years, covering Australian federal politics and international affairs, also working as a roving foreign correspondent with SBS’s “Dateline”. There is a lot more to his resume, but we are thrilled that he has discovered a great talent in writing crime fiction! We look forward to welcoming Chris to Peregian Beach Village!

Christine Skykes event

Christine Sykes – Tap Cats of the Sunshine Coast

Cooroy: 10:30–11:30am Tuesday 20 September

Noosaville: 10:30–11:30am Thursday 22 September

Set on the Sunshine Coast, the Top Cats dance their way through the challenges of the Senior Superstar Competition and their personal trials and tribulations all the way to New York and a Greek Island. The idea for the Top Cats of the Sunshine Coast came to author Christine Sykes in a very personal way. Her Auntie Peg, who lived on the Sunshine Coast, took up tap dancing when she retired and it gave her a new lease on life. Christine attended several performances of Peg's group over the years and enjoyed sitting in on rehearsals when she was visiting. When Christine retired, she followed Peg's lead and took up tap dancing! Books available to purchase on the morning with Annie's Books on Peregian.

Free. Bookings required.

From the critically acclaimed author of Mr Wigg comes an enthralling literary novel about a batmaker and a gifted young cricketer, set around the time the game began changing. For fans of Chad Harbach's The Art of Fielding and Joseph O'Neill's Netherland.

Cricket has a willow heart. Batmakers around the world have tried everything, crafting bats from birch, maple, ash, even poplars . . . After two hundred years, cricket bat making is still beholden to a single species: Salix alba caerulea - or white willow

Willowman is a love letter to the art and beauty of cricket and a meditation on the inner lives of certain kinds of men and women, for whom it is a way of life. Award-winning author Inga Simpson writes exquisitely about a national sport you will never view the same way again.
