Anniversary, Drives, Out On The Town

I hope this email finds you well. Today, October 29 th may be a cloudy Tuesday , but this update will attempt to be crystal clear.     

I want to start by recalling that, during this week of Halloween, the impact of climate change will always be more frightening than any costume. So, on this 7 th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy , it’s essential not to rest easy and remember that we must work quickly and with each other to make the changes necessary to combat climate change. So, while it’s not a pleasant memory for our community, it’s great to see Red Hook come together for the Barnacle Parade , the unveiling of Sandy’s high watermark , and environmental justice workshops .  

While focusing on Red Hook, please be aware that tomorrow, Wed, Oct 30th , the Red Hook Civic Association will meet at P.S 15 with a 7 PM start time. Please also note that the Justice Center and Miccio Center have partnered on a donation drive to collect necessities such as coats, hats, and toothpaste.Continuing with charity, don't forget that P.S 32 is holding a food drive and that tonight is CHIPS night out . 

Speaking of going out in our community, last night, Mon, Oct 28th, our Permits and Licenses committee met and approved 5 liquor license applications . As previously mentioned , a full board vote on these items will take place during our November 13 th  General Board Meeting at M.S 51 .

While the general board meeting is 2 weeks from tomorrow, later this week, there will be lots going on across our district for Halloween. For example, The   Park Slope Civic Council hosts its annual parade  from 7th Avenue and 14th Street down to the Old Stone House . The  Brooklyn Conservatory of Music  becomes the  Con-spook-atory , Cobble Hill will also have a parade  while in Carroll Gardens,   Scotto’s , led by our very own John Heyer will scare you and then calm you with candy . 

Halloween has a lot going on, so if you think I’ve missed a community-centric celebration, please reach out , and I’ll be happy to share it.

If you plan on using the subway, tomorrow, Wed, Oct 30 th , click here for planned for service changes and here for bus service changes . Also, just like today, Alternate Side Parking (ASP) regulations will be in effect tomorrow, Wed, Oct 30th, but suspended this Fri, Nov 1 st .   Regardless of ASP, you can vote all week .
