TCCN Lead Physicians and Practice Administrators,

As we announced in July, TCCN engaged a new insurance brokerage and consulting firm, Sterling Seacrest Pritchard (“SSP”), to assist with placing our 2022 malpractice insurance program. As part of that engagement, SSP secured bids from various malpractice insurers, and we are pleased to announce that TCCN’s new malpractice insurer will be Curi. The change is effective 11/1/22.

TCCN practices who are participating in our existing malpractice program are, on average, receiving 20%+ in savings from Curi. We expect these savings to be at the same levels or perhaps even more significant for your practice.

In addition to the savings, Curi is offering to match a significant portion of each physician’s “loyalty or retirement” benefit balance offered by your existing insurer. Some insurers allocate a portion of each physician’s premiums into a “loyalty fund” which is payable in the event of death, disability, or retirement. With Curi’s offer to match much of these “loyalty” funds, industry leading coverage, value added services, and their unwavering defense of their physician members, the annual savings are extremely attractive for all TCCN members.

We encourage you to reach out to Bartley Miller at Sterling Seacrest Pritchard to discuss the TCCN malpractice program in more detail. Bartley and his team can provide you with a formal proposal and assist you in evaluating whether the TCCN malpractice program is a good solution for your practice. With the current state of the malpractice insurance market, we are confident that the TCCN program can provide you and your practice with significant value.

The TCCN malpractice program has provided our members with significant savings in the insurance market since 2015 and our team would be grateful for your consideration of the program.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I have to purchase an Extended Reporting Endorsement (“Tail”) when moving my coverage from my existing insurer to Curi?

No. Curi can assume each physician’s “prior acts” going back to your current retroactive date.

What if I have already qualified for a free retirement “tail” with existing insurer?

Once a physician is covered for 12 months and over the age of 50, the physician will automatically be granted a free “tail” upon death, disability, or retirement from the practice of medicine. If you plan to retire within the next 12 months, Curi is willing to consider offering a free retirement tail without requiring 12 months of coverage.

Does Curi’s policy include “consent to settle” language requiring Curi to obtain the physician’s consent before settling a claim?

Yes. Curi must secure the physician’s consent before settling a claim on his/her behalf.

Does Curi offer a “retirement benefit” similar to the Owners Circle offered by MAGMutual or The Tribute Plan offered by The Doctors Company?

Yes. Curi offers The Legacy Fund. Additional details related to Curi’s “grant” can be discussed with SSP.

My practice currently has other lines of coverage placed through our existing malpractice insurer (i.e. businessowners policy, cyber liability, workers compensation, etc.). Can that coverage remain with our existing malpractice insurer or can SSP place those lines of coverage on behalf of my practice?

Both. Practice can maintain these lines of coverage through their existing malpractice insurer or if interested, SSP can provide competitive options and place this coverage on behalf of your practice.

Does Curi offer Payment Plan options?

Yes. Practices have various payment options that are outlined later in this document. In addition, if a practice is interested in setting up EFT for payment, the practice will save an additional 2% in premium.

Do we need to wait until my malpractice insurance is “up for renewal” before evaluating whether the TCCN malpractice program is right for our practice?

No. You can move your malpractice coverage at any time. By evaluating the program mid-term, you can give yourself plenty of time to consider whether the program is right for you and your practice.

What if my practice is already insured with Curi, can my practice still take advantage of the TCCN malpractice program?

Yes. Please contact the SSP team to discuss.
