Assisting Bishop of CANA East
October 2, 2018
Earlier today, at the CANA East clergy and spouse retreat, Bishop Dobbs announced the retirement of Bishop David Bena, as the assisting bishop of the diocese.
Bishop Dave has been a bishop in the Convocation of Anglicans in North America since 2007. He received a bachelor's degree from Stetson University, a master's from Virginia Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry from the Graduate Theological Foundation and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. He served as a Marine officer before ordination and as an Air Force chaplain and parish priest after ordination. From 2000 to 2007, he was the Suffragan Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany.
Dave and Mary Ellen have three grown children and six grandchildren.
Bishop Julian Dobbs said, "Bishop Dave and Mary Ellen Bena have served the Lord and his Church faithfully, sacrificially and with distinction. So many lives have been touched by this dear couple over so many years and in so many circumstances. The Convocation of Anglicans in North America and especially the Diocese of CANA East, have been blessed by God through the ministry of Bishop Dave and Mary Ellen."
While Bishop Bena will conclude his active episcopal ministry in December this year, the diocese looks forward to thanking the Bena's for their ministry at Synod 2019 which will be held in Souderton, Pennsylvania May 16-18, 2019.
