Church Street News & Opportunities

Reception for Tim Ward and Edie Johnson this Sunday

This Sunday, July 28, after the 11:00 worship service, you are invited to celebrate Tim and Edie's 15 years of ministry together at Church Street as Tim retires and Edie prepares for her next chapter.

As an act of gratitude, please consider giving a Love Offering for Tim and Edie.

There are three ways to contribute:

  • Make a secure gift online at www.churchstreetumc.org/give and add your dollar amount under Tim Ward Love Offering or Edie Johnson Love Offering
  • Write a check (memo line: Tim Love Offering or Edie Love Offering) and mail it to Church Street UMC, P.O. Box 1303, Knoxville, TN 37901
  • Place your love offering in a pew offering envelope on Sunday mornings and write Tim Love Offering or Edie Love Offering on the front. You may place it in the offering plate.

Gifts will be presented to Tim and Edie on Sunday, July 28, at the reception after the 11:00 worship service in Parish Hall. That day, you will also see baskets for notes or cards you would like to share with Tim and Edie. All are invited to attend this reception; refreshments will be available.

Let us all offer a prayer of thanks for Tim and Edie's service, leadership, and friendship during their time leading Church Street's music ministry.

Reception for Katie Strangis, Jenny Cross & Beth Cooper-Libby on Sunday, August 4

There will be a reception honoring Katie Strangis, Jenny Cross, and Beth Cooper-Libby for their years of service to CSUMC on August 4 during the Sunday School hour in the Parish Hall.

Please drop in anytime between 9:45 am and 10:30 am to wish them well as they move on to new opportunities. Combined, they have served Church Street for 36 years!

There will be baskets available for you to drop in a note of thanks or token of appreciation.

New Stephen Ministry Class Beginning August 10

Training is important whenever anyone learns a new skill, and that includes Stephen Ministry. Stephen Ministers go through in‐depth training so that by the time they start their official ministry, they’re completely ready. A new Stephen Minister training class is beginning soon—to find out more, contact Rev. Pat Clendenen at pclendenen@churchstreetumc.org today.

CALLED CHURCH CONFERENCE - August 18

The CSUMC Church Council, at their regular meeting, June 25, 2024, approved the motion from CSUMC Board of Trustees to approve the concept of a Memorial Garden in the Courtyard. The Trustees have approved the Columbarium/Memorial Garden Task Force's recommendation to expand the use of the Courtyard to include a memorial garden. Indoor space is still being evaluated for columbarium options.

The Church Conference will meet with the District Superintendent after the 11:00 service in the nave to vote on this motion. Will Johnson, Trustee Chair, will share more information about the plan in an upcoming Messenger.
