Juneteenth in Tarrytown

In observance of Juneteenth , all Village offices will be closed on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Normal operations will resume on Friday, June 20, 2025.

The Mayor and the Board of Trustees have proclaimed June 19, 2025, as Alberta and Hassan Jarane Day in the Village of Tarrytown, honoring the couple's 22 years of contributions to the community.

Alberta and Hassan join a historic line of African American business owners who have contributed to the fabric of the Village over the past two centuries, from the Taylors who donated Patriot's Park to the community, to the Fosters who owned a successful confectionery and helped found the AME Zion Church, to Wade Solomon and his vacuum store to the Jaranes and their thriving Main street restaurants today.

In 2003, Alberta and Hassan Jarane opened Mint Premium Foods at 18 Main Street, later relocating to 19 Main Street. In 2016, they expanded their culinary presence by opening Pik Nik Barbecue at 45 Main Street. Both establishments have become integral parts of Tarrytown's commercial, culinary, and cultural landscape .

Beyond their business endeavors, the Jaranes have been active leaders in social justice efforts, advocating for fairness and equality in the community. Their commitment to creating opportunities for people of color and investing in the future of young individuals has further solidified their positive impact on the village .

The proclamation, issued by Mayor Karen G. Brown and the Village Board of Trustees, recognizes Alberta and Hassan Jarane for making Tarrytown a better place to live, work, and enjoy.

Con Ed Tree Trimming

Con Edison to Trim and Clear Trees Away from Wires in an Effort to Mitigate Damage to Electric Lines

In the coming weeks, Con Ed contractors will be in the Village of Tarrytown neighborhoods to assess and trim trees along the overhead power lines in the right-of-way. If trees or limbs on your property have grown near their lines, they need to trim or remove them – including street trees. However, tree trimming on private property is the responsibility of the property owner.

Their professional arborists who follow the International Society of Arboriculture pruning guidelines will do all the work at no expense. They make every effort to minimize the impact on appearance, health, and stress to trees.

Their arborists will let you know if you have a hazardous tree on your property. These dead, diseased, or dying trees are outside of the right-of-way but could fall and cause a power outage for you and your neighbors. Con Ed will not cut or remove a tree that is not in the right-of-way without property owner permission.

For more information, visit coned.com/treetrimming. To report a hazardous tree, email Con Edison at BWlineclearance@coned.com.
