Today's announcements:
-When students return to school. in the fall, they will experience a much more adaptable space in Fr. Brission Hall. Two additional basketball hoops are already in place and an electric gym divider is being completed over spring break.

-I know there has been a lot of stories in the media about random people crashing Zoom meetings. Teachers are updating their meeting settings to ensure the online safety of our students.

-There is still time for confessions this week. Times are listed in the E-blast this week along with other Masses and prayer services throughout Holy Week.

-See information below about a new community service opportunity that is available to students and HCA families.
Father Brisson Hall Project
This week Holy Cross Academy had two additional basketball hoops installed in the far end of Father Brisson Hall. This will allow two basketball teams to practice at the same time and provide opportunities for indoor recess on days with poor weather.

We are also having the gym divider installed that will allow us to use this important space for multiple uses at once.

This project was made possible through generous donations from Holy Cross Academy Families and a $5,000 gift from the Holy Cross Academy PTO. We can do amazing things for our students when we all work together!
Best practices for Zoom Calls
·        Follow the link provided by your teacher for your call. Use the
password provided if it is needed for the call.
·        Be patient while your teacher logs you into the call from the “waiting
room”. This feature makes sure only the right people get onto your call.
·        Participate in your Zoom calls in a well lit room. Your teacher and
classmates want to be able to see you.
·        Consider what you are wearing and your surroundings. Choose a
common area in your home and dress appropriately.
·        Conduct yourself in language and actions as if you were in the
classroom.
·        Use the raise hand function if you’d like your teacher to call on you
specifically.
·        Sit up and look attentive – this is as close as we can get to having class
right now.
·        Be on time. Try your best to log on just before the call begins.
·        Use the chat feature or private chat feature only if requested by your
teacher.
Community Service Opportunity
One question that I have been asked by many Holy Cross Academy parents is, "How can we help?".

Many HCA families recently stepped up to make donations to St. Mary's Parish food pantry. These donations were greatly appreciated and the need will be ongoing as families in our area are still in need.

Micah Eucomincal Ministries has made our parish aware of a need that they have which HCA families might be able to help with. Our homeless brothers and sisters are feeling very alone and isolated as they can no longer enjoy the community dinner environment. They come to the hospitality center in the morning and are given a bag with their breakfast, lunch and dinner and eat alone.

We would like to ask students to create “meal notes” that consist of a happy message of hope with a scripture verse and/or drawing, letting our area homeless know they are loved and not alone.

Students can make several notes with the items they have at home. No need to buy anything fancy. Cards can be dropped off at St. Mary's Parish. There is a box set-up in the Courtyard Meeting Room so they can drop and go OR mail to St. Mary’s to Elena Doyle's attention. We will bring the cards to Micah weekly until we can gather once again.

Free Access to ABC Mouse, Adventure Academy, and Reading IQ
Many publishers and online learning sites have offered free access to their materials. Below is a link to a letter with a free access code to a trio of popular (and typically paid) sites.

Please don't see this as one more thing to do, but rather an opportunity for additional educational resources for your child if you choose to use them. I know the last thing many parents want to deal with is one more website or log in credential to remember.
Mission Statement

At Holy Cross Academy, we are guided by the spirit of Saint Francis de Sales as we dedicate ourselves to:

  • Create an atmosphere of prayer and reliance on our heavenly Father;
  • Spread the message of Jesus in our families and our community by treating all persons with respect and showing reverence for the gift of God in each one;
  • Build up the Spirit-filled faith community within Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish;
  • Serve those in need in our local community and in the Missions through an awareness of our global responsibility to all humanity;
  • Develop the whole child: spiritually, emotionally, academically and physically;
  • Promote academic excellence by challenging all our students to recognize their gifts and fulfill their God-given potential.
