  A ctivity Buses operate on  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week. 
  
Softball Games Today After School:
  
The girls' softball team will be playing against Ridgeview today after school. You must have a permission slip to stay after school to watch the game. Come out and show your Cougar Spirit!
Get a permission slip from Mrs.Martin.
 
The boys softball team will leave FOMS at 2:20 for their competition against Ridgeview. Students are responsible for any work missed.
  
Basketball Season
Starts November 1st!
7th and 8th grade students interested in trying out for Basketball should be sure that all of their forms are turned in by that date.
 
The forms are located between the boys and girls locker rooms and in the front office. Students must have a current physical. Contact Mrs. Martin if you have questions. Lisa_B_Martin@mcpsmd.org
  
" Excel Beyond the Bell" is underway Monday through Thursday after school. This program is free and has so much variety to offer your Student! There is still time to sign up. Call the FOMS Office for more information. Click the link below to hear what Students have to say about the program.
  
Opportunity for Parent Participation!
We are looking for a minimum of two parents to join and provide input to each of the FOMS Committees detailed below.
The Committees meet from 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of each month except AVID/SIOP who will meet on 3rd Wednesday of each month. The first meetings are October 19th and October 21st. Report to the office to find out the Room number where the Committee you are interested in is meeting.

Yearbook Sales:  The 2016 Forest Oak yearbook is now on sale. Make sure that your child doesn't miss out on our yearbook tradition. It's the only book that captures the year's events, activities, friendships, experiences and memories from FOMS. You will have limited opportunities this year to guarantee a book for your child.

Forest Oak  Fundraiser: 
Forest Oak's school-wide fundraiser is running from Monday, September 28th through Friday, October 9th. 
This fundraiser supports many school-wide initiatives.  This includes but is not limited to: field trips, school assemblies, the poet in residency program, student power lunches, staff appreciation, ABC parties, and more! 
Prizes for designated selling levels include selfie sticks, RoboMinion, a glow party, and Great American Fundraising's new tuition program that lets you earn money off college tuition at over 340 colleges and universities across America.

Box Tops!: 
Students are encouraged to bring Box Tops to their Cougar Time teacher. Those received through October 23rd with qualify for a "lollipop" prize!

FOMS PBIS Roar Store: 
The ROAR store is open for business every Tuesday and Thursday. Bring your ROARS! 
No money accepted. Some items available include: snacks, pencils, tee shirts, and stress balls.  
 
ANNOUNCING the ROAR PRIZE DRAWING:  Put your ROARS in the jar in the ROAR store.  Every other Thursday a name will be drawn from each grade level jar.  The THREE Lucky winners will receive fabulous prizes.  Make sure to clearly print your FIRST and LAST name on your ROAR before you place it in the jar.  The teacher name must also be clearly written on the ROAR.  If student first and last names and teacher names are not clearly printed, then that ROAR will be VOID and another ROAR will be drawn.  THREE Lucky winners every other Thursday.  GOOD LUCK!  
 
 
 
Meet the Authors Meet Authors Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely Authors of the new novel All American Boys at the Bethesda Library on Monday October 5th. All American Boys is the story of two teens one black, one white who grapple with the repercussions of a single violent act that leaves their school, their community and ultimately the country bitterly divided by racial tension.   
 
Giant School Rewards :  As of September 14th, Giant Food Store is now allowing customers to join or renew for school rewards.  Register and every time you food shop, a portion of money will go to the school of your choice up to two choices.   Forest Oak MS ID number is 03268 or search for school by city. Go to www.giantfood.com and click on Savings and Rewards and a drop menu will appear.  Click on A+ school rewards and choose the customers log in box and follow instructions to confirm school! Thank you for your support. 
 
Harris Teeter School Rewards:  Have you registered your Harris Teeter card for school rewards yet?  You can go online to harristeeter.com to designate FOMS.  Harris Teeter Together in Education code is 3366
Hispanic Heritage Month :  As we enter our fourth week of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Diversity Committee would like to highlight someone very popular in the music industry.  Do you know who is considered the "King of Bachata?"  This young man is only 26 years old and has already sold out Yankee Stadium twice!  He has over a half a billion views on Youtube, as well.  Geoffrey Prince Royce was born in 1989 in the Bronx, NY,  This young man, of Dominican descent,  loved poetry as a young boy and eventually began performing music at the age of 15.  By the age of 21, he had already signed with one of the premier Latino music producers in the United States, Sergio George.  Currently, Prince Royce is one the most popular and most listened to artists in Latino music
 
A Day of Writing with Authors Workshops :  MC youth programs presents a day of writing with authors for students in grades 6 through 9. This unique opportunity will take place on Saturday October 17th at the Rockville Campus. Students will get the chance to write and speak with two different published authors.
