Sept 1     Life And Teachings of the Masters of the Far East

In the late 1800's a group of 11 western scientists toured the "far east" researching a variety of subjects. On their expedition they had three years allotted to seek out the true Masters of eastern spiritual tradition to see what they could learn about those traditions as well. They found them...

September 1st: Major Social Justice Meeting

There will be an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Trustees on Sunday, September 1, after services, to define the focus of our social justice efforts.

Every member of the congregation is invited to contribute to the conversation. We are hoping for as many as possible to attend.

Every week the mission of maintaining good spirits and friendships and a calm mind draws us together. It's a necessity, especially in times of turmoil.

Conscience and compassion also animate us. The worse the world around us becomes, the more we are pulled into confronting the privations and injustices around us.

But it is easy to lose balance in a whirwind of outrages and become trapped in a vortex of indignation.

So to keep our wits gathered and to aim our social justice efforts well, we need to assess how much we can take on and ensure that what we do has a discernible effect.

Upcoming Services

September 2019

September 8
Speakers: GA Delegates & Attendees
Lessons From General Assembly

Five members from SUUF attended the denomination's annual gathering, held this year in Spokane, June 19-23. It was an extremely busy, enlightening, challenging week; hard to describe unless you hear about it in detail. So that's what we'll attempt to do in 40 minutes! There will be copies of the complete schedule for you to peruse. You'll be amazed at what's packed into an event like this, where planning starts a year in advance. Note: Next year, GA will be in Rhode Island!

September 15
 Speaker: Rev. Barbara Davenport
How Animals Enrich Our Lives

Have you ever had a pet? If the answer is 'yes', you know the power of the friendship that develops between humans and their animals! Rev. Davenport will share insights on this special bond, with specific thoughts on how to survive a loss. If possible, bring a photo of an animal that is or was special to you. Post it on a 'viewing board' and you can introduce us to your pal. Both smiles and tears expected, and welcome, today.

September 22
 Speaker: Pema Antoniotti
How To Be the Best You Can Be
Pema is a trained counselor who helps people find the best in themselves, regardless of age, disability or a multitude of other impediments, real or imagined. Picture yourself doing, acting, moving toward a goal. If you can see it, you can do it. That's what today's message is all about. Come. You'll be glad you did!

September 29
Speaker: Jonathan Prescott
The Many Colors of Meditation

Come and learn about the different styles of meditation and how any of them will enrich your life. Jonathan will describe what's involved and will lead us in a meditation before the hour ends. He will also share, specifically, the "nuts and bolts" of a silent meditation retreat which may sound daunting indeed! Not to worry... you will leave refreshed AND ready to incorporate meditation in your everyday routine.
