Speaker: Rev. Barbara Davenport
How Animals Enrich Our Lives

Have you ever had a pet? If the answer is 'yes', you know the power of the friendship that develops between humans and their animals! Rev. Davenport will share insights on this special bond, with specific thoughts on how to survive a loss. If possible, bring a photo of an animal that is or was special to you. Post it on a 'viewing board' and you can introduce us to your pal. Both smiles and tears expected, and welcome, today.
Thank you Iola Ratcliff for your beautiful table decorations for last Sunday's barbeque. Surprise! Those grapes are real and everything came from Iola's garden. Thank you also Tom Gillespie for delicious barbequed chicken and everyone else for awesome potluck.
In the library located in the office. New Robert Fulghum book " From Beginning to End" donated by Joy Lindberg. It is on the top shelf for now. To borrow books from the lending library, sign your name on the "I borrowed" list on the wall.

Amy Engelhardt-A Laughternoon of Songs & Stories - Fundraiser
Enjoy a musical matinee at SUUF Sunday Oct. 6, 2 pm $20 donation at the door, and we split the take between Amy and the church.

Diehard Jersey girl and multi-hyphenate AMY ENGELHARDT fell in love with the Pacific NW during her 13 years with Seattle-based Grammy noms The Bobs. But Amy's first love was theater; she made her Off-Broadway debut as composer/lyricist of Richard Rodgers Award Finalist and Off-Broadway Alliance Best New Musical nominee BASTARD JONES. Her writing credits include TRIPTYCH (trio of 10-minute musicals set on the M42 crosstown bus for the New York Transit Museum, book/music/lyrics) and lyrics for TESLA (Foundation for New Musicals). In Seattle, she wrote lyrics for commissioned adaptations of Carl Sagans CONTACT (Puget Sound Theatre Award: Best New Play) and NICHOLAS NICKLEBY (Center Stage) and music/lyrics for A COMEDY OF ERAS at ACT (with the Flying Karamazov Brothers). A frequent emcee at the Moisture Festival at Hales Palladium, Amy spent several summers with assorted Karamazovs and vaudevillians on New Old Time Chautauqua tours of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Her diverse vocal credits include the soundtracks for Jurassic World, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jim Henson's Animal Jam, Harry Shearer & Judith Owens CHRISTMAS WITHOUT TEARS (2005-2018 tours, BAM, Walt Disney Concert Hall), Barbra Streisand's Timeless, the LA Bach Festival and Neil Young's Living With War. And as Mother Superior of the Chattering Order of St. Beryl in Amazon Primes GOOD OMENS promo campaign, Amy recently led a gaggle of satanic, rock-belting nuns at the series premieres in London, New York and Austin. She produced their EP Unholy Night released on Amazon Music, and claims to be Neil Gaimans new BFF. The only honorary female member of the Vienna Boys Choir, Amy is now working on her second solo album, FINISH WHAT YOU. www.amyengelhardt.com

Engaging Others, Knowing Ourself
Burlington Lutheran Church 134 E Victoria Ave, Burlington, Washington 98233
Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 7 PM – 8:30 PM
What happens when we engage with someone from another wisdom tradition? Will we be led away from our own tradition? Will we experience conflict and need to distance ourselves? Or is it possible that engaging with people of other traditions can lead us both deeper into our own tradition, while appreciating and learning with those of other traditions?

Join us for a conversation with Pema Lisa Antonioni and ordained Buddhist, Chris-Lee Thompson an ordained Lutheran Pastor and Terry Kyllo, the executive director of the Treacy Levine Center to explore how engaging with people of diverse traditions can enrich us all.
"Calling all musicians at SUUF. Here's an event you are sure to enjoy! See Sally for more information". UU musician and worship leader Matt Meyer will be leading a workshop at the Evergreen UU Fellowship in Marysville in the morning on Saturday, 9/21 (we're still nailing down exact start/stop time - but something like 9:30am-noon).
We'll share best practices for introducing new music, while using music to set the context and tone of worship. We'll also share practical tools for developing new musical elements that engage the congregation and deepen the worship experience.

We'd love to have your worship & music folks join us!
