"The River"
Please note early start time this Sunday. We are linking to the UUA General Assembly Sunday worship service. Following the service, SUUF will hold our annual congregation meeting at 11:00 am
Sunday Service, June 28, 10:00 AM
  • Rev. Joan Javier-Duval, Minister of the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, VT.
  • Rev. Mykal Slack, Community Minister for Worship & Spiritual Care for Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism.
  • Benjie Messer, Co-Chair/GA Music Coordinator for the 2020 General Assembly 160-member virtual GA Choir.
“Beyond the Water’s Edge”
These are uncertain and volatile times. These are times that call on us to work towards our collective liberation while also tending to our spiritual needs and caring for others. How do we ready ourselves for what is being asked of us? How do we keep moving even when we don’t feel ready?
Sunday Service On-Line
Regular Sunday services are offered on-line for the duration of this emergency.

We haven't found a way to transmit snacks and coffee, but otherwise we will reconstitute much of the experience of coming to the Fellowship.

The technology platform we're adopting, called Zoom, lends itself to a participatory experience.

We will be together at the same time. We will see each other, talk in turn, chat, listen, and watch. It will be like a campfire for the dispersed.

The Zoom link will be emailed to you on Sunday!
Mark your calendar:
June 28th

Service starts at 10:00

Sunday, June 28th we will start a half hour earlier than customary in order to catch the concluding service of the annual General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Immediately afterward we will switch to holding our own annual meeting to pass a budget and elect board members.

Annual Congregational Meeting starts at 11:00
Sunday our church members will vote on the budget for the new fiscal year. Your financial support literally holds up the building and our computer connections and makes getting together possible. If you have pledged, thank you. If you have not, please pledge today: NOW!. If you have pledged and realized your love for and need for this group of people and the organization we make up is so strong you want to increase your pledge, please do so.

As always, thank you for making this church what it: you and me and us together. Please call me with questions or to discuss.

In faith and love,

"Summer Miracles"
Starting June 29th, our Fellowship begins "Summer Miracles," a program that invites a prolonged encounter with awe and wonder. Stories from our Unitarian Universalist Sources and hands-on activities engage members (child AND adult) to discern miracles, experience and express awe and wonder, and discover their own agency for miracle-making. We will make a uniquely Unitarian Universalist inquiry—a religious search which simultaneously embraces the awesome truth of a miracle’s mystery and the “how and why” of rational explanation. We will explore different kinds of miracles, from the awesome, ordered beauty of Earth and all life on it, to their own capacity to transform themselves and others to bring forth love and justice.

This is an online based program intended to stand-in for CRE, but as this is a multi-generational program everyone is invited to participate. If able, I urge members to join our private, member only facebook group. There, having discussions on activities will be much easier and more engaging. Non-members and those without facebook can opt for the weekly email, which will be sent out every Monday.

If you would like to opt-in for the weekly email or have questions, please contact Tatum at tatumkenn97@gmail.com
As my last official duty at SUUF, I am the keeper of the SUUF Memorial Tree on the wall in the coffee room.
The inscription beside the tree reads:

In Memory Of The Leaders Who Came Before Us.
We Are Now The Keepers Of The Flame

Recently I added 3 new leaves to that tree. The names on those leaves are Wilma Murdock, right side of the tree, Allan Lowe, far left, Bob Helton, center. When we return to SUUF for services you will be able to find their names by the yellow silk rose which I placed by each name. They are greatly missed.

Locks are being changed at SUUF. Pete Smith is hard at work upgrading our building security. There are no keys in the lock boxes at this time.
Congratulations to Marta Varee Pearson, winner of UUA Women's Federation 2020 Sermon Award. Marta presented her sermon, "Georgia Blew My Mind in 2019: Moving Past Dreams to Action," during the UUWF Breakfast at GA on June 24.

Our own former member, Marta Pearson, delivered her award-winning sermon Wednesday morning at the UU GA. Marta came to Skagit Valley in the 2000's from Maine.... her children were in the military stationed out here. She joined the Fellowship in October 2008. She lived in Skagit for several years, hosting garden parties and other community-building gatherings. She began guest-preaching and motivational presentations at other churches as well as our own. Marta moved to Florida, again following her children who were stationed there.  It is a pleasure to see that she has won an award from UUWF for her sermon. Doris Brevoort

A video of her sermon will be available at a later date.
Doris Brevoort is hosting the Covenant Circle as a midweek Zoom meeting. C hatter and chitchat with your cherished chums at Wonderful Wednesdays at One.

Topic: Wonderful Wednesdays at One

25 Years of Human Rights Work in Burma
As UUSC celebrates our 80th anniversary in 2020, we also mark 25 years of human rights advocacy in Burma. Learn more about what our grassroots partners have accomplished with your support over their long struggle for rights. It's crucial to remain committed to the work — by promoting international advocacy and strengthening grassroots movements.
Continue Taking Action to Defend Black Lives and Dismantle White Supremacy

The United States will never truly live up to its potential until racism, white supremacy, and bigotry are eradicated. UUSC is expanding its anti-criminalization work and encouraging its members to follow the wisdom of Black-led organizations. We all have a role to play in supporting movements for racial justice and mobilizing to defend Black lives.
On Sacred Land: Protecting Tribal Sites from Fracked Gas

UUSC and its members are actively supporting the Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe of Texas as they fight to protect their land, specifically the Garcia Pasture, from Texas LNG, who seeks to build fracked gas terminals on sacred sites. You can now listen to testimony from the recent Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribunal for Human Rights that affirms their inherent right to protect the land, their right to survival, and their right to recognition.
Happy June birthdays!!!  Best wishes to Ken, Skyler, Doreen, Claire and any others celebrating your special day this month.
Helping Kindness: a note received from Tatum Kenn

Hope all is well,

Just wanted to put it out there that if there's anyone in our Congregation who is at-risk and would like assistance with receiving groceries or other goods, if handed a list and money, I can make some trips.

Best, Tatum.
