Deeper Than our Separateness
In his incomparable essay “The Over-Soul,” Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, “Our faith comes in moments; our vice is habitual. Yet there is a depth in those brief moments which constrains us to ascribe more reality to them than to all other experiences.” In this sermon I will share a personal experience of such a moment in my life, which speaks to the foundation of my sustaining faith. This will be the first in a two-part sermon series on the heart of religion.
The Board of Trustees will be meeting this Thursday, November 14th, 2019, at 6:30 PM at the Fellowship. Members and friends are invited to attend the meeting.

How To Offer Love and Gratitude at Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a day of gratitude. But sometimes it devolves into a day of gluttony, football, and family tension. Let’s restore thankfulness to Thanksgiving by learning concrete techniques to help us connect deeply with our loved ones and celebrate life’s abundance.

Reuse, Renew, Recycle and the Christmas Story
The traditional Christmas story is one we UU’s often reject - and for many good reasons. How much is history? How much is magical thinking? How reliable are sources that tell the story up to 80 or so years after the death of Jesus. And yet, how does one account for miracles and mysteries associated with Christianity in the past 2 centuries? (And yes, wars and atrocities.) What signs in this old story comfort us, challenge us, bring us to hold the story with open hearts and minds? Experience in life tells me that such a big story which has lasted for such a long time, is worth considering. Can we find the essence of the story, and so, revalue it for our time?

Especially to Parents, but to all who love Science Fiction:
The Anacortes Public Library will host its fifth annual genre night. This year the theme is "Sci-Fi" and will start at 5:00, Saturday, Nov. 16 at the library, 1220 10th Street.
The free event features costume contests, games, prizes, and activities for all ages.
(from Rosemary--The library goes all out to make it a wonderful experience. The librarians will be in costume, and there will be lots to see and do. The kids will love it, and you will have fun.)

Nandi, a young father of humanity, social entrepreneaur, has kept his promise to return to us from Kenya! Nandi is teaching women how to support themselves, raising chickens in their backyards - and actually walking the whole business cycle of chickens maturing, being harvested and taken to market. The women are then freed into their self-supporting life, with a guaranteed market.
Come! Meet our brother, support him, and learn by his example how WE can do this here. If not chickens - another product. Nandi has come the long way at great focus to do so. Let us do our part and show UP for him.
Come, be the One Earth FAMILY - WE ARE - together!

"Build Your Own Theology".  First Sunday in December at noon.

Our first meeting was after church on the first Sunday in November, Nov 3rd at noon. (Circle of chairs = meeting!) All are welcome to hear about the curriculum, which is available from the the UUA website Bookstore). I suggest that the study group meet once a month for 9 months, until next June to work through book One of the curriculum. We will break down the curriculum into monthly units, suggest some readings and journaling, if people wish to do so (writing, art, song, whatever!),
and discuss our own thoughts and feedback on the topics.

People are welcome to check this out-- no "obligation"!  Monthly meetings with be open to all, as is the basis of our UU theology-- with caring, curiosity, faith-seeking, and respect!
