About the Program
For this project, WACA will arrange for decision makers and policy experts to discuss with Council audiences across the country why America needs a professional diplomacy. AAD will propose speakers from among its
, one per Council, for a speaking engagement to be hosted through mid-October 2020. Councils should include several preferred dates or date ranges in their proposals. Exact dates will be determined in collaboration with WACA and the American Academy of Diplomacy.
In addition to the main speaker event,
Councils will organize at least one media engagement on the same subject
, as well as
a separate roundtable forum
that aims to get at the substantive issues of:
- How has Trump’s transactional diplomacy changed the public’s understanding of what is diplomacy and why it is important?
- Who are U.S. allies and what is the importance of alliances and treaties?
More specific topics for the roundtables will be refined at a later date through a collaborative effort between AAD, the local Council, and WACA. At the end of the event, the Councils agree to distribute to all event attendees a short online follow-up survey.

Costs and Stipends
WACA will provide
with $2,000. Councils will use grant funds to cover venue, A/V, food & beverage, promotion, photography, and speaker costs (flights, transportation, and food during travel). Reimbursement will be made within 30 days of the submission of the Council's final program report to WACA.
