LUM Summer of Service — Engage for Good
Summer is the Perfect Time to Volunteer
Believe it or not, summer is the perfect time to engage in volunteer work. While it’s wonderful to serve all year long, summer is an especially good time to get involved in something worthwhile — like Lafayette Urban Ministry — because the needs are great and the opportunities are exciting.

Each summer, LUM has a challenge finding volunteers because student organizations don’t meet and retirees often take a break from volunteering. You and your family typically have more free time in the summer and have more time to volunteer.

Would YOU please consider volunteering during the
LUM Summer of Service?

Volunteers are needed with the LUM food pantries, homeless shelter, youth programs including the full-day, child care program and summer camp, as well as with buildings & grounds. For more information, go to; or email or call Terri Anderson, the new LUM volunteer coordinator ( | 765-423-2691).
Summer of Service - Volunteer Opportunities
Something For Every Schedule & Skill Level
Serving at LUM ranges from assisting a client one-on-one to preparing a meal. There are opportunities that fit every schedule, from regular long-term commitments to one time jobs, and weekday, weekend, afternoon or overnight. The Many Benefits of LUM Summer of Service
Civic Engagement - Give Lots & Receive Lots
Volunteering with LUM gives you the chance to have an immediate positive impact on individuals, children & families in your community, allowing you to see the fruits of your labor.

Civic engagement has benefits for you too. Volunteers often share that the experience expands their knowledge and understanding of others, gives them a sense of purpose, makes them happier, boosts their self-esteem, teaches them a new skill, fires up their brain, and allows them to meet new people and build a community network.

So, follow your passion, find something that excites you, convince a friend or two to join you and make this your “LUM Summer of Service.” For more information, go to; or email or call Terri Anderson, the new LUM volunteer coordinator ( | 765-423-2691).

Gift from the Tippe Town & Country 4-H Club
Needed Items Donated from Local 4-H Club
The members of the Tippe Town & Country 4-H Club recently collected needed items for the guests in the LUM Emergency Shelter. In addition to much need items (toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, deodorant, facial tissues, shampoo, comb, body wash, disposable razor, lip balm & socks), each packet included a handwritten note of love and encouragement.

Greg Willoughby delivered a truckload of items to LUM with his daughter and 10-year 4-H member, Sarah Willoughby. Thank you to Greg and all of the members of Tippe Town & Country 4-H Club for this thoughtful gift.

If you, your company or organization would like to collect items for LUM, please check out our list of “needed item.” Items are listed by “need” and also by program. Some of the Hot Needs are as follows:
