Welcome to the first edition of 4 Loop!
Hello, welcome to IIDA Indiana's first installment of the 4 Loop! Can you believe fall and sweater weather are already here? (If you haven't seen the SNL skit you have to check this out.)

We were inspired by the changing leaves and crisp air to refresh how we communicate with you. We are constantly striving to improve and take a "less is more" approach for future email blasts. Therefore all CEU signups will only be emailed to you in this bi-monthly newsletter or found on social media.

Look to the 4 Loop to get you where you need to go, no matter which 4-"loop" surrounds your City Center. This newsletter will have all the comings and goings of the IIDA Indiana Chapter to better "celebrate, advocate, and create opportunities" for the passionate Interior Design community across our Hoosier state.

I am so thankful for fall to remind us that change can be beautiful, but I am even more thankful for all of you! Your drive, talent, generosity, and commitment to IIDA Indiana are what makes this Chapter so amazing. Thank you for letting IIDA Indiana be part of your journey!

Happy Fall y'all!

Lindsay Schenkel,

Course description:
Lighting has gone through a significant transformation over the last decade.  Where did we come from - and where is lighting headed?  This presentation will first explore the history of lighting technology, lighting terminology, as well as lighting techniques and luminaire distribution. But LEDs have changed the game.  Designs using traditional sources are diminishing, while all LED projects are becoming the norm.  How does one differentiate the 'good, the bad and the ugly' of LED products?  And don't forget about Energy Codes , which have truly become a design element.
Mingle Recap
Our annual Mingle with IIDA events were recently held in our Fort Wayne and Indianapolis City Center locations.  If you're not familiar, the Mingle is more than just a social event for IIDA, it is our annual Membership Drive.  Our chapter was fortunate to have Viridian Architectural Design sponsor the venue for our Fort Wayne event  & CSO Architects as our Indianapolis venue sponsor.
The Mingle is our Chapter's opportunity to connect with our current members to update them on things to come. Additionally, it's our time to inform prospective members of the tangible and intangible value a membership to IIDA brings.

Currently, Headquarters is offering two promotional opportunities:

Immersive Planning
Speaker: Josh Mercer
Course description:
The research study revealed a workplace that is dramatically different than one of just a generation ago.  Knoll found five significant factors that contribute to a new way of working and drive new thinking about the work environment.  Based on findings, a new way to think about space has been identified.  Defined as Immersive planning, the model not only blurs the lines between work, life, and play, but also individuals and teams, primary work-spaces and activity spaces, and owned and shared work areas and tools.  Comfortable furnishing and fluid boundaries characterize this group-based workplace where the actions of the people themselves define the space.  The result:  an environment that creates a variety of experiences, transforming at a moment's notice and evolving with use.

IIDA Advocacy Symposium

September 23, 2016. The second annual IIDA Advocacy Symposium had begun. The city: Denver, CO. The topics: All things related to promoting the integrity of Interior Design - Everything from various states' lobbyists who work to convince legislators that this profession is essential to the health, safety and welfare of the public, to the two fellas in charge of writing and commissioning the NCIDQ. There was also a Denverite who lead the fight in marijuana legalization. Inspiration was in the air.

The best thing about the conference was learning about all of the other states - their tactics, their promotion of the industry, their status of registration, licensing, and stamping. Each state is so different and it makes you ask yourself - what does our state want? Are we satisfied with our current registration? Do we want to be able to stamp our own documents? Are we ready to fight if our registration gets taken away? Our state, unlike a lot of others, has a coalition growing in strength. It's made up of interior designers, IIDA members, ASID members, and even architects. We are all trying to tell the story of our industry.

Everything we do must support the legitimacy of our profession. We offer CEUs to keep the industry educated on the latest. We encourage and support students in their efforts to make it through the three E's. And we raise money, through chapter sponsorship and signature events, that help us continue this fight. The best part is that this is a grassroots effort. We are determined to tell the public that we are educated, experienced, and examined to a very steep standard.

When we can show achievements with data, such as the psychometric measurements of the NCIDQ, or the econometric measurements of the soon to be released IIDA economic impact study, we can show the effectiveness of the Interior Design community.

For now, tell your friends, your neighbors, the guy next to you at the gym what your profession is, and do it with pride and awareness. And stay tuned for the economic impact numbers from Indiana...
Thank you 2016 Chapter Partners!
