To the Pace Community:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Alison Carr-Chellman, PhD, as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Pace University.

Dr. Carr-Chellman is a nationally recognized scholar and academic leader with more than twenty-five years of experience shaping institutions and advancing student-centered learning. She most recently served as dean of the School of Education and Health Sciences at the University of Dayton, where she focused on expanding academic programs, increasing externally funded research, forging collaborative partnerships, and raising key indicators of student success, including graduation, retention, and career placement. Her five-year term will begin on January 20, 2026.

Before her time at Dayton, Dr. Carr-Chellman served as dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Idaho. Earlier in her career, she spent more than two decades at Penn State, where she held both faculty and administrative roles, including department head and program chair, with a focus on instructional design, systems thinking, and organizational change in higher education.

She earned her PhD in instructional systems from Indiana University Bloomington, with a focus on educational systems design, and holds both a master’s and a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her ability to build academic vision, lead inclusive teams, and drive innovation while remaining grounded in scholarship and practice.

This appointment concludes a national search process that drew on the insights and involvement of members of the Pace Community at every level. I thank the search committee, co-chaired by Elisabeth Haub School of Law Dean Horace E. Anderson Jr. and Professor Nancy Reagin, PhD, for their dedication, along with the many colleagues who participated in interviews and the many members of the Pace community who attended open town halls and candidate sessions. Your insights and thoughtful feedback helped shape this important decision.

I also express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Jonathan Hill, who has served as interim provost during a pivotal period for Pace. His leadership has helped guide our academic teams through a time of significant change, including the restructuring of key administrative offices and a comprehensive overhaul of the University’s approach to student retention. Throughout this period, Dr. Hill has provided calm, thoughtful leadership and a steady hand. We will share more about his future role in the coming weeks.

Dr. Carr-Chellman stood out in this search for her strength as a scholar, her clear and confident communication, and her ability to build strong relationships with faculty and academic leaders. She brings a thoughtful, strategic perspective that is grounded in experience and shaped by a genuine commitment to student learning and institutional progress. We are excited for the leadership she will bring as Pace continues to strengthen its academic reputation, expand scholarly productivity, and support the success of our faculty, students, and programs.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Carr-Chellman to the Pace Community

Sincerely,

Marvin Krislov

President
