Fund for Leadership, Equity, Access and Diversity
Announces First LEAD Fund Author of 2021
Fund for Leadership, Equity, Access and Diversity (LEAD Fund) Promotes a New Generation of Leaders by Sponsoring College and Graduate Student Research
Washington, DC, May 25, 2021 – The Fund for Leadership, Equity, Access and Diversity (LEAD Fund), a nonprofit affiliate of the American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity (AAAED), announced its first LEAD Fund Author for 2021. The Fund published the paper of Carolina C. Gomez, a graduating senior from UCLA, as part of its LEAD Fund Authors’ Program. “We welcome Carolina Gomez as a member of an elite group of young thought leaders we call LEAD Fund Authors,” said Shirley J. Wilcher, LEAD Fund President and CEO.

The LEAD Fund was established to provide thought leadership in promoting inclusive organizations and institutions through research and education on issues related to diversity, social responsibility, human and civil rights. The LEAD Fund is a “Think and Do” tank, which advances new knowledge and tested strategies aimed at eliminating prejudice and discrimination. The LEAD Fund Authors Program emphasizes “Diversity in Action” and is committed to promoting undergraduate and graduate research that advances new understandings and tested strategies aimed at expanding organizational or institutional knowledge of access, equity, and diversity.

LEAD Fund Author Gomez’ paper is entitled, “A Crisis of Mass Detention: Assessing Immigration Policy in the United States,” and addresses the evolution of the U.S. immigration policy that has resulted in an explosive growth of detainees and an emergence of an “immigration industrial complex.” The author makes policy recommendations including comprehensive immigration reform.

The Fund welcomes the submission of additional papers from undergraduate and graduate students and will publish a maximum of five papers through December. Each selected paper will be edited by a professional editor, prepared for publication and uploaded to the LEAD Fund website. The author will also receive an honorarium and may intern with the LEAD Fund or AAAED.
