We’re excited to welcome seven new grantees funded through our Indigenous-Led Solutions to Advance Health and Wellbeing call for proposals (CFP).
Made up of Indigenous scholars, communities, and their partners using a mix of Indigenous and western research methods, these grantees are engaged in promoting and upholding traditional Indigenous practices, fostering community cohesion, and challenging and changing harmful narratives about Indigenous Peoples to increase their health and wellbeing. Throughout what is now known as the United States, the project teams are serving Native Hawaiian, Alaska Native, Yakama Nation, Flathead Nation, and Anishinaabe communities. We are looking forward to the opportunity to co-learn alongside these grantees.
We want to acknowledge and offer gratitude for the insights, collaboration, and feedback we received from the Indigenous scholars and community members who contributed to the development of the CFP and reviewed proposals. Furthermore, we thank all of the applicants. Without exception, the proposals we received demonstrate deep care and commitment to the wellbeing of Indigenous communities. We recognize and appreciate the significant thought, time, and energy that was invested in developing submissions to this solicitation. As a reminder, E4A is pausing acceptance of Letter of Intent (LOI) applications on November 1st to update our racial equity CFP.
Unless your project is time sensitive, we recommend waiting to submit your LOI application until after the system opens again in late January 2025.

Join us for the hybrid Ways of Knowing Symposia culminating event! Collectively, we’ll explore, prioritize, and coalesce around next steps for transforming the health science knowledge system and fostering a more inclusive and equitable standard for rigor in health research. The event will take place as a pre-conference convening at Race Forward's 2024 Facing Race National Conference.
When: November 20th, 2024
*Optional hour of virtual networking starts at 9am CST
Registration for the Ways of Knowing symposium does not grant access to the full Facing Race conference. Separate registration and fees are required to attend the conference. Attendees are responsible for covering their own expenses.

We’re eagerly awaiting the November release of Indigenous scientist Robin Wall Kimmerer’s new book, The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World. Kimmerer delves into the dichotomous simplicity and complexity of the interconnectedness between plants and the natural world. She explores the question, “How can we learn from Indigenous wisdom and the plant world to reimagine what we value most?”
In the meantime, listen or read the author’s essay, “The Serviceberry: An Economy of Abundance,” which offers a glimpse into the anticipated book, the natural world, and the many connections we may have with it.
