What is the Charles L. Franklin Associates (CLFA)?
The Charles L. Franklin Associates is a men's membership wing of the National Council of Negro Women, Incorporated. NCNW, founded in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, is a non-profit organization of 32 national affiliate organizations, 200 community based sections, 81 campus-based sections, and an outreach to over 2,000,000 women of African Descent. The mission of NCNW is to lead, advocate for and empower Black women, their families and communities. The CLF Associates is named in honor of the late Dr. Charles L. Franklin, Jr., an activist leader, physician, and family health advocate who was highly supportive of the National Council of Negro Women.
What is the Charles L. Franklin Associates (CLFA) Mission?
The primary mission of the CLFA is to support the programmatic focus of the National Council of Negro Women, which are:
- Promote science, technology, engineering, art and math education
- Encourage entrepreneurship, financial literacy and economic stability
- Promote good health and eliminate health disparities
- Promote civic engagement and sound public policy

- Joining and participating in a local section*
- Helping with mentorship and the teaching of life skills to young men
- Hosting webinars and trainings around the programmatic focus
- Attending national NCNW events
How to become a Charles L. Franklin Associate (CLFA) Member?
Men can join via the NCNW website at

or through their local section or college. A list of sections can be found at

- Collegiate Associate membership fee is $10 per fiscal year and is active from October 1 thru September 30
- Annual Associate membership fee is $50 per fiscal year and is active from October 1 thru September 30
- Associate Life membership is $500 and paid once in a lifetime
- Group Life membership is $750 and paid once in a lifetime. (For groups and companies only. Not for individuals of the groups and companies.)
*A section is an organized community or college group of active NCNW members.
