Medical Education
Dear School of Medicine students, educators, and staff,

We are excited to announce the launch of a new community building initiative called the Bridges Houses Program. Developed in collaboration with the School of Medicine's governing body, ASSM, the program aims to increase students’ connections to their classmates and coaches, enhance professional development, and maximize opportunities for peer mentoring among students across all phases of the Bridges curriculum.
About the Bridges Houses Program
All School of Medicine students will be divided into “houses.” Each house will include at least one Blue coach, one Gold coach and 5-6 students from each class for a total of 20-24 students per house. The program will be launched for new student orientation July 20 – August 7, 2020.
Key Elements in Bridges Houses
Medical Student Coaches: Pairs or trios of coaches in each house will play an integral role in supporting and mentoring students.

Clinical Microsystems Clerkship (CMC)/Coach Days: Each house will share the same CMC/Coach day and schedule. This will facilitate group coordination and programming, particularly during CMC days and ARCH Weeks.

Near Peer Mentoring: During Orientation, our goal is to identify one MS2 from each house to work as an Orientation Peer Mentor. Their role will be to serve as small group leaders and peer mentors to their new “housemates.” These staff will conduct regular check-ins with incoming students in their house, plan and implement social events for MS1 students, and lead small group sessions during Orientation. In the fall and beyond, there will be opportunities for cross-class house interactions during CMC days, ARCH Weeks, and at various points in between.

Students will be receiving a message from their Student Experience Team Academic Advisor with more information on their Bridges House in the coming weeks.

We look forward to working together to ensure that students feel a sense of belonging at UCSF School of Medicine, and feel connected to their classmates and coach. Thank you for joining us as we help build community at the UCSF School of Medicine!
