Tales of Forgiveness
at the East Hawaii Cultural Center
141 Kalakaua St. Hilo, HI 96720
4/9 6:30pm-8:00pm

The evening will open with two local, true supernatural tales of forgiveness, including the story of a Hawaiian family that begs a stone to forgive them. The evening will continue with a 45-minute rendition of Tales of the Three Monks.
Themes in the show are suitable to ADULT audiences, as they include Buddhist thought, supernatural events, sexual references, and violence. A discussion will end the evening.

Gere notes that he has a "fascination with the powerful emotional effects of tragic tales." He read the The Three Monks as a college student 40 years ago and added to his canon with a Vietnamese folktale found in a picture book. He admits that he is "still not sure why such tragic tales of love affect him and his audiences. But they do." He has performed the stories at Honolulu's Spalding House Museum, where people wept in response, and at the Hawaii Book & Music Fest, and Hawaii Public Radio.
Tickets are $10 for EHCC members and $15 general, at the door. Gere will perform live narrative amid a unique video of collage illustrations over a musical bed.

Hawaiian Sanctuary is proud to present: Plant Aloha, a FREE educational series of sustainable farming classes. Every Thursday morning, from 9:00am until 12:00pm, led by local and visiting experts. Visit our website for more information:

Cultivating and Propagating Beneficial Indigenous Micro Organisms with David Forsythe

In this amazing class, we will dive deep into the esoteric realm of indigenous micro organisms. Learn how to cultivate these beneficial microbes to establish fungal networks in our gardens, farms, or food forests. We will be doing a hands on learning activity on how to make an indigenous micro organism pile to melt the rock into soil and awaken the ancient intelligence that is living on this island. Learn more about making Korean natural farming solutions, philosophies, and practices.

Bio: David Forsythe is a local natural farmer and educator. He has traveled to South Korea to study directly with the primary source of Korean natural farming knowledge ~ Master Han Kyu Cho. David's mission is to share this natural farming knowledge with the community to empower local farmers and growers to build soil and make their own medicinal "fertilizers." By partnering with the unseen world below we can reawaken the microbial intelligence in the soil to create food security, food sovereignty, and generational wealth for the future generations.

In this modern epic, Kim Nguyen exposes the ruthless edge of our increasingly digital world. Cousins from New York, Vincent (Jesse Eisenberg) and Anton (Alexander Skarsg ård) are players in the high-stakes game of High-Frequency Trading, where winning is measured in milliseconds. Their dream? To build a straight fiber-optic cable line between Kansas and New Jersey, making them millions. But nothing is straightforward for this flawed pair. Anton is the brains, Vincent is the hustler, and together they push each other and everyone around them to the breaking point with their quixotic adventure. Constantly breathing down their necks is their old boss Eva Torres (Salma Hayek), a powerful, intoxicating and manipulative trader who will stop at nothing to come between them and beat them at their own game.
