Class of 2025 Outstanding Eagle Scout Project of the Year
We are proud to announce the selection of Greater Los Angeles Scouting’s 2025 Outstanding Eagle Scout Project of the Year. This year’s honor goes to Emma S. of Troop 219 in the Pacifica District for her impactful and research-driven project focused on youth mental health and connection.
In response to the growing youth mental health crisis highlighted by the U.S. Surgeon General, Emma designed her project to equip young people with the “tools” needed to build and maintain meaningful friendships. Grounded in research, her work emphasized teaching essential social skills to help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation among youth, utilizing a world-renowned program developed by UCLA.
Emma partnered with Our Village, a Torrance-based nonprofit founded by Monica Fyfe, which supports children, teens, and young adults facing social challenges, including neurodiverse youth with ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression. Drawing from the UCLA PEERS social skills program, Emma developed a series of five structured videos designed to model positive social interactions. She recruited and trained more than 20 Scouts to serve as actors and collaborated with a fellow Scout studying film production to bring her vision to life. Today, these videos are actively used in Our Village classes, where Emma also serves as a social skills coach, directly supporting participating youth.
Emma’s passion for mental health advocacy was sparked through her three years of service on the Beach Cities Health District Youth Advisory Board, where she also held a leadership role as her school’s representative. Her Eagle Scout project represents a powerful culmination of her dedication to both the Beach Cities Health District and Our Village, organizations she credits for shaping her journey.
Looking ahead, Emma plans to pursue a degree in psychology with a minor in Spanish, continuing her commitment to supporting youth and strengthening communities.
