SPRING 2019
GCEF recently announced our first impact grants, including a $10,000 grant to CANAPI to address the epidemic of LGBTQ+ youth homelessness in Greater Akron. Altogether, the fund awarded $55,050 to local nonprofits this year, bringing our total grantmaking to nearly $530,000 since 2001.
Through April 30, the GCEF Scholarship Fund is accepting applications from LGBTQ+ and allied students pursuing a postsecondary degree. Applicants must live or study in Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit or Wayne counties. Priority is given to students who have participated in organizations or initiatives that make a difference in the LGBTQ+ community.
Mark your calendar for Aug. 1, when we'll welcome the community to our 2019 annual meeting at the Akron Civic Theatre. The event will celebrate the fund's impact in Greater Akron and recognize our most recent grant recipients. Proceeds from the annual meeting benefit the GCEF Scholarship Fund. In December, more than 1,200 people from all over Greater Akron joined us for another fabulous Sugar Plum Tour of Holiday Homes. Because of your generosity, the 2018 tour raised approximately $150,000 for the Gay Community Endowment Fund! We couldn't have done it without all of our amazing sponsors , homeowners, volunteers and committee members.
Plans are already underway for our 18th annual Sugar Plum Tour on Dec. 8, 2019. For information about volunteering or becoming a sponsor, contact Gayle Wilson at 330-436-5614 or [email protected] .
Thank you to the generous individuals, families and organizations who contributed to the Gay Community Endowment Fund throughout 2018. Your gifts will improve the lives of LGBTQ+ people in our community for many years to come.
From cash to mutual funds and retirement assets to real estate,
