September 2025

Dear Friends:

I am incredibly honored to have been named the new permanent Chair of the Department of Psychiatry. I am excited by this opportunity—also a significant responsibility—which I approach with great humility and enthusiasm.

We know that major mental health funding challenges lie ahead. Yet, I am confident that we have superb resources to meet them—especially in the collective talent, commitment, and creativity of our faculty, staff, and trainees. We are all united in our mission to make a lasting difference for those we serve. The work we do is important and deeply meaningful. As we move forward, I am inspired by the hope, fortitude, compassion, respect and resilience that define our department.

With gratitude and hope, and wishing you all a beautiful autumn,

Steve
