The National Audio Theatre Festivals, Inc. (NATF) is pleased to announce the 2022 winner of the Norman Corwin Award for Excellence in Audio Theatre on the late Norman Corwin’s birthday. We look forward to presenting the award to Fred Greenhalgh as part of this year’s Hear Now Festival, which will take place virtually June 23–26. Details to follow!
The brilliant and prolific audio pioneer, writer-director-producer-engineer Fred Greenhalgh has been named winner of the 2022 Norman Corwin Award for Excellence in Audio Theatre.

Fred is the youngest-ever winner of this prestigious national award, but he's already earned it with a long string of excellent productions as his career continues to take off. He was recently named Head of Audio Production at Realm overseeing their scripted audio fiction production and turning out more than 20 shows a year.

Bringing his indie-film background to the world of “movies for the mind,” Fred created a superb original audio series, The Cleansed, using innovative and adventurous location-recording techniques to tell a fascinating, dark and dystopian modern story. This caught the attention of Audible, and led to Fred's partnership with Corwin Legacy Award honoree, the late Bill Dufris, to create a 13-and-a-half hour audio movie called Locke and Key, which featured such notables as Stephen King, Tatiana Maslany, and Haley Joel Osment. This was followed by The X-Files: Cold Cases and Stolen Lives (featuring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and many of the original cast members), and Expeditionary Force: Homefront (with Zachary Quinto, Kate Mulgrew, and R.C. Bray). Fred was the sound designer for the Webby Award-winning If I Go Missing The Witches Did It and Roanoke Falls, working with Executive Producers John Carpenter and Sandy King Carpenter. His original work includes critically-acclaimed The Dark Tome, Of Fae And Friends, and Undertow: A Dark Tome Story.

Fred is the founder and original host of Radio Drama Revival on WMPG, which continues in its 15th year as a popular podcast with host Elena Fernández Collins at the helm. A tireless advocate for audio theatre, Fred’s efforts to promote the art include offering a free online course teaching audio theatre techniques, speaking at conferences around the world, and he has been featured in many of the world’s most influential media publications including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and Rolling Stone. He has also been recognized by the British Broadcasting Corporation.
