Award winners represent some of the past year's most impactful economic development efforts, as well as growing companies served by the EDC’s core services of business attraction, business financing, and business incubation.
Economic Development Project of the Year
SSM Health St. Charles County Expansion

Over the past few years, SSM Health has invested $60 million to grow its footprint in St. Charles County to accommodate the County's surging population. Recent projects include opening a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery facility in the St. Peters area and a 66,000 SF medical facility under construction in O’Fallon. Other improvements have recently occurred or are planned at SSM facilities in Lake Saint Louis, St. Charles, and Wentzville.
EDC Business Attraction Project of the Year
Lear Corporation

Lear Corporation made a significant investment to transition from a 55,000 SF facility to a state-of-the-art 210,000 SF manufacturing facility in the booming automotive manufacturing cluster around General Motors Wentzville Assembly. Lear's facility, which makes seats for GM trucks and vans, is home to more than 500 employees.
EDC Small Business Incubator Alumni of the Year
Pineapple Hospitality

In 2022, Pineapple Hospitality outgrew its space in the EDC's business incubator and moved into an office/warehouse facility three times its previous footprint. During its years at the EDC, the company grew to become one of the nation's largest distributors of hospitality amenities.
EDC Small Business Incubator Tenant of the Year
Ninni Co.

Ninni Co. is a woman-owned company manufacturing innovative American-made baby products. Its patented pacifier is made of medical-grade silicone and reinforces a proper breastfeeding latch while helping maintain healthy oral motor and tooth development. In just three years on the market, it has garnered accolades from lactation consultants around the world.
SBA 504 Borrower of the Year
Steward Metal Fabricating

Steward Metal Fabricating is a second-generation, family-owned precision sheet metal fabricator located in the City of O'Fallon. The company has a broad range of manufacturing capabilities and can design, assemble, and deliver custom products. The company used an SBA 504 loan through the EDC to invest $1.1 million in a building purchase, allowing them to move from their leased space, grow the company, and add jobs.
Economic Development Initiative of the Year
City of Cottleville Downtown Revitalization

Cottleville's commitment to revitalizing its historic downtown has resulted in a charming business district that has become a regional destination. Some of the new attractions in the growing downtown include Frankie Martin's Garden, a popular food truck and live music venue, and the Public School House, a premier event space housed in a restored one-room school. Oak Street Inn and Lounge, a boutique hotel with an onsite restaurant and speakeasy, is also scheduled to open later this year.
Talent Pipeline Project of the Year
Zumwalt Apprenticeships

The Fort Zumwalt School District's award-winning trades careers apprenticeship program is one of the largest in the country and in the top three statewide by number of apprentices. The partnership provides local manufacturers with highly skilled workers and provides students with paid, on-the-job training while attending high school, as well as 45 college credit hours toward a Skilled Trades Associate of Arts degree from St. Charles Community College.
