W|ALLS: Defend, Divide, and the Divine
at Annenberg Space for Photography
The space in between

For centuries and across diverse civilizations, walls have been central to human history. From artistic to social, political to historical, these wall aspects are explored in six sections as Delineation, Defense, Deterrent, Decoration, The Divine, and The Invisible, overlapping and changing meaning according to context. Featuring the works of over 70 global artists and photographers, attendees contemplate how these structures affect the human psyche and why we keep building them. Annenberg Space for Photography presents W|ALLS: Defend, Divide, and the Divine , a complex, challenging, and immersive exhibition that takes a historical look at civilization’s relationship with barriers, both real and imagined.
