FEDERAL AGENCIES A new law, signed on Jan. 14, pushes agencies to appoint or designate a qualified Chief Data Officer (CDO) without regard to political affiliation. Congress passed the Open, Public, Electronic and Necessary, (OPEN) Government Data Act as part of former House Speaker Paul Ryan’s Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act.

ARKANSAS In March 2017, the State of Arkansas 91st General Assembly passed Act 912 of House Bill 1793 to create a Panel on Data Transparency and to create the positions of Chief Data Officer and Chief Privacy Officer within the Department of Information Systems.
