We are pleased to share with you the news that the Connor family is opening a new company, Connor Mill-Built Homes. While the sudden closing of the former Connor Homes on January 1, 2017 was surprising and disruptive, it has paved the way for this exciting new venture.
More than forty-five years after founding Connor Homes, we are again starting anew. In 2012, at the height of the Great Recession, our company was taken over by a minority investor group who thought they saw an opportunity to rapidly and significantly scale the company up to a size more than ten times what it was, with high technology leveraging the growth. The company was also combined with the JS Benson window and door manufacturing company. The technology was exciting but expensive; the window and door business was distracting; and the combination created a business that proved to be less than the sum of its parts. The investors were well-intentioned but were unable to put together a strategy that successfully addressed the above and so the experiment failed. However, this unfortunate outcome created an exciting opportunity for us to once again guide a new company, founded on the same principles of classically-inspired architectural detailing, now with forty-five years of experience behind it.
The new company will look and feel much more like the company our family ran prior to 2012, but with an enhanced focus on our core values that will make it even better. Technology will continue to be a part of the company’s growth, while continuing the legacy of historic architecture. Above all there will be a renewed emphasis on our relationships with our customers.
Since the company’s beginnings many decades ago, our clients have always shared a special bond with us, as a deep appreciation for historic architecture is an emotional tie that binds us all to one another. We remain firmly committed to applying our knowledge of the scale and proportion of classical architecture to design and build beautiful homes, for the ever-changing needs of current and future families who will occupy them.
We want to express our gratitude and appreciation to all those former clients, friends, builders, employees and vendors who have come forward to encourage us and to tell us that the industry needs our unique approach and dedication to quality residential home building and who have given their unwavering support to the start-up of our new-old company.
We will be occupying our new offices at 227 Pond Lane in Middlebury’s Industrial Park immediately, while the shops are being fitted-up and made ready for manufacturing. Many of our former co-workers have joined us in this new venture, so we have the depth of experience and expertise to hit the ground running. We invite all to visit us at our new facility, and we welcome anyone who would like to explore options for the design and production of a new home.
Warmest regards,
