When was your last Medical "Annual Physical"? 1 year ago, More than two, never had one?
At Integrative Therapies Wellness Center we have done away with the "Annual Physical" and replaced it with the "Annual Wellness Assessment". Most people don't really know their level of health. They may go to a doctor and have a "yearly physical" which may include a short physical exam and some lab tests. Inevitably they are told something like "your fine" or "your tests are normal". But what that means is that the doctor didn't find any obvious disease at the moment. But is that good enough? Is wellness just the absence of disease? So, how do we measure wellness? You can't simply say it's when you feel good because we all know someone who felt fine one day and dropped dead the next week of a heart attack; or the women who felt fine today but was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 months later. Lack of symptoms or feeling good is not an effective barometer to measure your health. Neither are lab values that are reported as "normal" just because they fall in a population's reference range. That's why I and the team at Integrative Therapies Lifestyle Wellness Center use a WELLNESS SCORE. This is a scoring system developed to track and measure your physiology and function. It actually gives you a grade, A thru F. We measure what we call bio-markers of health. Your tests can be in the "normal range" but you may still get a letter grade of "C" or "D" because you are not in the optimal range. The Wellness Score gives you a great summary of where you are. With it we can implement a program to help you with where you want to be. Are you happy with a "C" wellness score? If you answered yes then keep doing what you're doing for your health and we'll see you next year. If you're not happy with your score we will help coach you in making the changes you need to make to increase your level of wellness. We not only encourage you to get a yearly wellness score, we require it of any person who wants us to be their wellness team. I look forward to helping you assess your level of wellness. Sincerely, Carlos Reynes, M.D.
