Last week at the HCAF Annual Conference & Trade Show, a task force was organized to address aggressive tactics by Florida’s Zone Program Integrity Contractor (ZPIC) auditor, SafeGuard Services.
For more than a year, HCAF has heard complaints from providers about the abuses of power by SafeGuard, which have created time-consuming and costly administrative burdens for providers at best, and decimated agencies and disrupting access to care for beneficiaries at worst.
The purpose of the task force is to bring together a broad-based coalition of leaders –– whether you have been subject to a ZPIC audit or not –– who are willing to collaborate and formulate solutions for policy makers to reform ZPIC audit practices.
Since last fall, HCAF has held meetings with policy makers to inform them about the seriousness of this issue.
Recent congressional activities
indicate that lawmakers are serious about r
educing the Medicare regulations and mandates that too often stand in the way of delivering quality patient care. The task force will develop solutions that protect the integrity of the Medicare benefit while reforming ZPIC processes.
The first meeting of the task force will be on Monday, August 7 at 1:00 p.m. ET.
