Sermon:

"There's No Place Like Home:

Courage to Live By"

Sacred Text:

2 Timothy 1:7-10

Worship (in-person and online):

10:30 AM

A Word from Renae

This Sunday we will once again travel the yellow brick road and meet up with the Cowardly Lion, who is looking for some courage. Our scripture reading assures us that we have been given a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline, not a spirit of fear. We will look at some of the stories of courage in the bible as well as people in our lifetime whose courage has made a difference.

If you have not filled out your covenant card yet, I hope you will prayerfully consider what God is calling you to do. It will take the commitment of everyone to carry out all God has for King of Peace to accomplish. There are many folks who need to hear the message of God’s inclusive love and we are called to carry that love into the community and world. God has blessed King of Peace with a new space to gather and use and share. Being without our own space for years, we can truly say with Dorothy: “There’s No Place Like Home”.

Blessings,

Rev. Renae

Safety Protocols for In-person Worship

Masks are optional for all those fully-vaccinated. If you have not been fully-vaccinated, we ask that you please continue to wear your mask.

In terms of physical contact, please be sensitive and respect everyone's personal wishes.

If you don't feel well, we ask you to please stay home. This includes fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

Covenant Keepers is our Stewardship program for 2024. It provides an opportunity for you to make a covenant with God through King of Peace MCC in six areas of your life: Presence, Spiritual Growth, Prayer, Financial Support, Witness, and Service. This program is designed to help us grow as individuals and together as a Church.

Our theme this year is "There's No Place Like Home." What a journey we have been on to get “home”. As we settle in to our new facility, there is a lot to do at the church and beyond the church.  Please carefully consider becoming a Covenant Keeper and return the Covenant Commitment portion to the Church by November 19th, 2023. You can put it in the offering basket, mail it to the church office (6085 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park, FL 33781) or email it to [email protected].

You can get an electronic copy of the Covenant Keeper Commitment Card here.

You can find any regular updates from our Pastoral Search Team by clicking here.

Our Pastoral Search Team continues to meet regularly and are looking to begin scheduling initial interviews from the applications received.

If you have any other questions for the Pastoral Search Team, you can email [email protected].

Take a few minutes each day this week to pray this prayer for our church, our Pastoral Search Team, and our next Senior Pastor:

God of Hope, we are grateful for our church and the ministry you call us to do in the world. We join our hearts in prayer as we search for our next Senior Pastor. We trust that you are already preparing the person who will lead us into the days ahead. Be with our Pastoral Search Team and give them wisdom and guidance from your Spirit as they do their work. May we be a place where faith and real life intersect for healing, hope and service through God’s love.

We pray in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.

Jessie Greer

November 30, 1940-November 13, 2023

We sadly regret to inform you that on Monday, November 13th, after a hard fight with cancer, Jessie Greer passed away.

Jessie was a long time member of King of Peace. Before moving to Florida, she was a member of MCC of Greater St. Louis also. Jessie was a vibrant and funny woman who loved her church, and would do anything to make others feel welcome. For many years, she was involved in Hospitality and would help out with many special events.

King of Peace will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Jessie on Saturday, Dec. 2nd at 10 am. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Please pray for all her family and friends and for all of us at King of Peace who will miss seeing her smiling face! We are grateful that she is no longer in pain and resting in the arms of her Savior.

We hope you'll join us for our Thanksgiving Eve Service and Potluck Dinner on Wednesday, November 22nd at 6 pm in the Social Hall. We will gather to give thanks for all God is doing in our lives. King of Peace will provide the turkey, and we ask you to bring the side dishes. There will be a sign up sheet in the foyer, or you can email [email protected].

It's that time of year again to dedicate a poinsettia in honor or memory of a loved one...and make the sanctuary beautiful for Christmas Eve. Poinsettias are on sale now and are $15 per Poinsettia. Deadline to order one is by Dec. 1oth, and you must pay when you turn in your order form. You can email [email protected] if you have any questions. You can find the order form here.

We will meet on Saturday, November 25th at 9 am to decorate the church for Christmas. Many hands make light work. So if you can join us, please stop by. If you have any questions, see Dwayne Shepherd.

For those interested, on Saturday, Nov. 25th at 10 am, join Kathy Moll and the Grounds Team for cleaning up the grounds. We'll spend some time pruning the garden and a few other places on the property.

There is a new movie musical coming out in theatres about the Nativity story entitled "Journey to Bethlehem". We are wondering if there would be any interest in getting a group from King of Peace to go watch on Saturday, November 25th. If you are interested, sign up in the foyer on Sunday or email [email protected]. We will need to purchase tickets soon in a group block, so we can all sit together. You can watch the trailer here.

We are now accepting donations of Gift Cards for our next Gift Card Bouquet. If you can, please donate a Gift Card of $5-$100 from anywhere (Wawa, McDonald's, Publix, etc.) for our Christmas Gift Card Bouquet. Tickets for your chance to win begin on Sunday, Dec. 3rd.

There will be a meeting of the Congregational Care Team following worship on Sunday, Nov. 26th. If you're on the team, please meet with Rev. Lorraine.

Starting Wednesday, November 29th at 11 am, for four weeks, we will be offering an Advent book study based on Amy G. Oden's book "Right Here, Right Now". This book reveals the Christian roots of mindfulness and the actual practices that, when reclaimed, deepen the life of faith and the power of our mission of love in the world. When we understand how radical it is to live in God’s presence right here, right now, our lives are transformed toward mercy, justice and abundant life. You can RSVP in the foyer or by emailing [email protected].

We will have a Church Work Day on Saturday, Dec. 9th, starting at 9 am. As they say, many hands will make light work. We have a lot on our to-do list, so we will definitely something that you can do. We want to spruce up our property for our upcoming Christmas concerts and Christmas Eve services. Please join us!

Believe it or not, Christmas is coming soon! That means its time for our annual Christmas concert. Our choir, along with the choir from Church of the Trinity MCC in Sarasota, will be presenting "Share the Good News: Peace, Love, and Joy" together. The concert will be offered at King of Peace on Saturday night, Dec. 16th at 6 pm. Tickets are $15. Because of the size of our space, tickets are limited. So you'll want to get them early! You can buy tickets here. (There will be a credit card processing fee!)

We will also present the concert at Church of the Trinity MCC in Sarasota on Sunday, Dec. 17th at 6 pm. You can find out how to get those tickets here.

This month, the Good Samaritan Food Pantry is in need of donations of cereal, pasta sauce, canned meat, and canned hams. If you are able to donate these items, please bring them to church with you on Sunday or you can drop them off at the church office Monday through Thursday from 9 am-5 pm. There will be a shopping cart in the foyer, just inside the front door, where you can please them.

Do you know of anyone within our congregation who might need some congregational care or for us to offer their name in prayer during Sunday service? If so, please email [email protected].

Monday, Nov. 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). If you can, please wear your King of Peace T-shirts and join us for the St. Pete TDOR memorial event downtown.
