President's Letter

Dear members and friends,

In just a few weeks, the CMC will be celebrating two very important events tied to our very founding: the Catskills Lark in the Park and our Annual Dinner.

Our club was organized from the efforts in 2004 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Catskill Park and its related pledge to keep forest preserve lands and waters “forever wild”. This year we will once again offer numerous events designed to explore the outstanding recreational opportunities available here in the Catskill Park and region. We and several of our allied area organizations (e.g. Catskill 3500 Club, Catskill Center, and the NYNJ Trail Conference) will lead events that offer something for everyone who loves the stunning fall colors and scenery. Keep track of upcoming events here: https://catskillslark.org/, checking back frequently to see what has been newly added. Then, reserve your place to participate in your favorites.

The CMC Annual Dinner is part of these early fall celebrations. This year's event will be held at the wonderful Windham Mountain Club on October 3rd, featuring a full course gourmet dinner, a guest presentation and film, and our excellent silent auction of great goods and services, from recreational equipment to dining gift certificates and valuable services. We'll also acknowledge and present certificates of accomplishment to members present who completed one of the CMC's several hiking challenges including the Catskills All Trails Challenge, the Catskills Grid 420, its cousin the Catskills 4 Seasons 140, and the CMC Hiking Trails Program. Get your tickets here: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/9w9mrjj.

We hope to see you during these celebrations of our Club and its stunning home here in the Catskill Park and Region as we recognize the Catskill Preserve's 122 nd year protecting this unique and essential environment and the CMC's 22 nd year of service to the region.

The CMC is dedicated to the environmental protection of the Catskill region, to fostering responsible and sustainable recreational use of its public lands through education and organizing outdoor events that are free to the public, and to supporting the physical and economic health of our local communities. Please join us as a member and donate generously in support of our efforts. It is only with your support that we can be successful.

With appreciation,

Wendell George

President

Annual Dinner, October 3

5-8 pm, Windham Mountain Club

Featured Film - Queen of the Catskills

This year’s dinner (October 3 at the Windham Mountain Club) will highlight Julie McQuire’s feat of skiing to and from the summits of 33 of the Catskills’ highest peaks. The short documentary film was created by Jamie Kennard, who has skied the high peaks in the Catskills and the Adirondacks. Julie and Jamie will give a brief presentation and discuss the film.

One of two parks in New York State that incorporates protected forest preserve, historic hamlets, and private lands, the Catskill Park is celebrated every fall through a series of events for the public’s enjoyment. Events span places in the greater region, as well. Keep an eye on the Lark Calendar as we get closer to October 3:

The CMC seeks to unite a diverse group of outdoor recreation enthusiasts, finding common ground in the effort to advance our goals. Whether you're a hiker, hunter, angler, cyclist, boater, skier, or enjoy another non-motorized outdoor recreational activity here in the Catskills, we believe that we can all work together to achieve worthy goals that serve us all.
