NACD kicked off the 77th Annual Meeting this weekend with a full schedule of meetings and an evening event hosted by the Louisiana Association of Conservation Districts.
Saturday morning opened with meetings of NACD's Resource Policy Groups (RPGs) and an orientation session for new members joining the Board of Directors.
The agenda continued as the NACD Board of Directors convened to begin their meetings this week. Yesterday's meeting included an address from NACD President Michael Crowder, an update from CEO Jeremy Peters, and a financial report from Secretary-Treasurer Gary Blair. The Board of Directors also heard a presentation on proposed changes to the by-laws and NACD's strategic plan for the next several years. The Board will continue to meet throughout the week.
Additional committee and partner meetings were held throughout the afternoon, and the day wrapped up with an evening dinner and river cruise hosted by the Louisiana Association of Conservation District.

NACD LEADERSHIP ATTENDS SERVICE PROJECT IN WETLANDS
|
On Friday, NACD Executive Board and Staff joined Ducks Unlimited, the Meraux Foundation, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Crescent Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), and the Wetland Watchers from Hurst Middle School for a service project.
The group gathered at the 40 Arpent Wetlands Observatory just outside of New Orleans to install duck boxes for various species of cavity nesting birds that call the wetlands home.
NACD would like to thank Ducks Unlimited and the Meraux Foundation for hosting this project as well as the Crescent SWCD and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry for bringing the NACD team, local partners, and students together for this memorable event!

LOUISIANA HOSTS RIVERBOAT TOUR
|
The Louisiana Association of Conservation Districts hosted an exciting evening on The Creole Queen Riverboat last night. The Creole Queen is an authentic paddlewheeler in the 90-ton class, powered by a 24 ft. diameter paddlewheel. It's outer decks offered stunning views of the New Orleans skyline for anyone who braved the rainy weather. Inside, the inviting décor and warm company made the evening a delight. A delicious Cajun dinner was served featuring Creole jambalaya, chicken and andouille gumbo, red beans and rice, and more. Thank you to Louisiana for organizing this wonderful and unique way to see and experience your city!

Executive Board Meeting Convened on Bus
|
NACD's Executive Board hit a snag on the return trip form the Service Project on Friday, resulting in the bus getting delayed. Not wanting to miss out on time together ahead of the Annual Meeting, the Executive Board convened the first part of their Friday meeting in the aisle of the bus with a microphone in hand, resulting in a meeting everyone will remember for years to come!
