We are so excited about the results of months and months of strategizing, planning and thinking about how could best serve you, our members. The new site is beautiful, but most importantly, it works really well! You can easily find information about the Chamber, how to join, the membership directory and our next two upcoming events, all on the homepage. We also used the new site to highlight our advocacy work and provide easy access to business resources.

The next time you head to  we hope you enjoy the new look and experience of the new site!
49th Annual Meeting Recap

There were awards given out, gavels handed over, and lots of energy in the room at our 49th Annual Meeting this  week at Turf Valley Resort.

Chamber members spent the first hour of the event networking and checking out exhibitors like one of our newest members, Zaching Against Cancer, and then Chamber President & CEO, Leonardo McClarty, called everyone into the ballroom.
As everyone enjoyed their lunch, Duane Carey, former Chair of the Board of Directors and Owner of IMPACT Marketing & Public Relations, LLC, took the stage to give everyone a first look at the new

Then McClarty announced the winners of our Awards for Chamber Excellence for Ambassador of the Year, Business Advocate of the Year, Young Professional of the Year and GovConnects Advocate of the Year. Columbia Asssociation's Janet Loughran, Offit Kurman's Andrew Robinson, The Howard Hughes Corporation's Antony Justin and Noblis' Mike Cameron were this year's awardees and each received a huge round of applause.
After the ACE presentations, the outgoing Board Members whose terms are expiring, including Luke Chow, Prime Manufacturing Technologies, Baxter "Mitch" Phillips, Jr., Howard Bank, Cole Schnorf, Manekin, LLC and Eric Pfoutz, Edward Jones (YPN Board Chair) were recognized. Outgoing Board Chair Jeff Agnor, addressed the meeting thanking everyone he has worked with over the last two years, but also making members aware that their voices can truly make a difference when it comes to advocacy matters including writing to their elected officials on issues of importance to the business community.

Then Agnor passed the gavel, both literally and metaphorically, to incoming Board Chair David Anderson. Anderson thanked Agnor for his years of generous service to the Chamber and the entire Howard County business community and then laid out some of his goals for the next two years, focusing on "Giving more than you Get" and "Leaving more than you Take". Anderson is passionate about making sure our members and sponsors realize exceptional value and return on the resources they invest in the Chamber. Specifically, he will work to make sure the Chamber is continually refreshing our programs, increasing our effectiveness as the Voice of the Business Community, and ensuring that as an organization, we are leveraging the benefits of diverse perspectives.
Anderson also presided over the official ratification of the slate of new Board of Directors Members including Anna Fleeman Elhini, Founder and Managing Director of Creatrix, Inc., Dave Sciamarelli, Vice President, MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate and Natalie Whylie, Owner and Vice President of Buisiness Development, Allegra Marketing Print Web.

McClarty closed the event by thanking everyone for coming and encouraging anyone in attendance who wasn't already a member, to join. It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon and we look forward to an even more spectacular Annual Meeting next year when we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chamber!
Maryland SDAT Director Meets with Chamber Members

In addition to face time with elected officials, we also work hard to provide opportunities for our members to interact with officials to talk about policies specific to individual industries. Last week, we were able to put a small group of members in the field of accounting in a room with the Michael Higgs, Director of the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation. The group talked about everything from exemptions from personal property taxes for some small businesses, to the new statewide business portal called Maryland Business Express to help guide business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.
