Swift Current Funding Opportunity
Fiscal Year 2024 Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Swift Current aims to better align the delivery of FMA flood mitigation funding to the disaster survivor experience. The purpose of FMA Swift Current is to reduce or eliminate the flood risk to NFIP-participating communities and repetitive flood damage to structures and buildings insured by the NFIP following a flood-related disaster event, and to enhance community flood resilience within NFIP-participating communities. It does so by providing funding for mitigation opportunities immediately after a flood disaster event with the aim of delivering mitigation outcomes.
Applications accepted on a rolling basis

NOAA Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts The Sea Level Rise Viewer shows how future flooding might look in the places we love.
Study: Flooding and Elevation: An Examination of Differential Price Responses to Flood Events
Although many studies show elevating properties in flood-prone areas can be cost effective, few, if any, studies have examined the impact of home elevation on property values. We examine the impact of multiple flood events on property values of elevated and non-elevated homes in Charleston, SC. We find flooding significantly reduces the rate of appreciation, and home elevation increases the rate of lost appreciation. Our results suggest home elevation is not a flood risk adaptation and mitigation strategy valued by the market.
