This Week at Christ Church
EMERGENCY NOTE!!
Island Pasta has lost power
Island Pasta has called to let us know that they have lost power today and aren't sure when it will be restored. SO.......

Enjoy a delicious pasta meal TOMORROW TONIGHT and raise funds for St. Mark's Neighborhood Pantry! Wednesday, January 27, order any medium or large "House Pasta Plate" from Island Pasta to go and the restaurant will donate 20% of your purchase price to St. Mark's Pantry.

Just mention Christ Church or Christ Church Day School when you place your order (619-435-4545). Orders must be phoned in by 6:30 p.m. and picked up by 7:00 p.m. The House Pasta Plate at Island Pasta allows you to select a house-made pasta (spaghetti, rigatoni, shells, etc.) and pair it with a fresh sauce (meat, marinara, pesto, etc). You'll be helping a local restaurant AND St. Mark's AND get a night off from cooking! Win-Win-Win!
2021 Annual Meeting
This Sunday - January 31
The Annual Meeting is an important event all parishioners should attend. Join us online this Sunday, January 31 following the 10:00 a.m. service. If you miss the service you may still attend the meeting at this Zoom link - it should begin about 10:45 a.m. The staff and ministries have worked hard to make this first (and hopefully last!) virtual meeting unique, engaging, and, yes, enjoyable.

An overview of 2020 is presented in the Annual Report which is available online. The report includes summaries of each ministry's activities, including the day school and Thrift Shop, a report on the financial status of the church, and 2020 parish statistics. If you wish to have a hard copy email Sandy by noon on Thursday and she will prepare one that you may pick up at the parish office - there will be a basket on the porch.
Parishioners, look for a special mailing coming this week! Inside you'll find:
  • An invite to the Annual Meeting
  • A list of the Vestry nominees with photos and bios
  • Your 2020 giving statement
  • A new parish directory
  • A prayer postcard - to keep or mail to a friend
  • A Bingo card for the meeting - instructions included
  • ...and a couple of fun goodies
Annual Meeting Bingo
Can't be a winner if you don't play!
In the packet you'll receive in the mail this week there will be a Bingo card custom-made for Annual Meeting Bingo! (thank you, Charlette)

Official instructions are on the back of the card the but the gist of it is that you need to hear or see enough items listed to complete a row. Then enter "BINGO" into the Zoom chat. The first 10 winners will receive a $10 gift certificate for one of these local businesses:

  • High Tide
  • Bay Books
  • Seaside Papery
  • Blue Bridge Hospitality
  • Nado Gelato
  • Clayton's
  • Villa Nueva Bakery
  • Tartine
  • Costa Azul
  • Saiko Sushi

You can't win if you don't play and you can't play if you don't come to the meeting. See ya there!
The Great Kindness Challenge
Choose kindness
This week, January 25-29, 2021, Christ Church Day School is participating in The Great Kindness Challenge. For the last four years, we have joined with schools all over the world to celebrate and spread kindness. Each year, we have completed more acts of kindness than the year before.

This year, we are changing our focus from amounts of kind acts to intentional kindness. We are Choosing Kindness this year. As a school community, we will Choose Kindness each and every day; kindness for our families, kindness for the world outside our gates and over the bridge, kindness for the community that surrounds us, kindness for ourselves, kindness for the teachers who love, support, and guide us each day. Did You Know?
Parishioner Brian Dix
San Diego Union-Tribune, January 6, 2021
Back in 2008, Marine Corps bandleader Brian Dix got the idea to compose a symphonic piece called “Madam President,” just in case then Sen. Hillary Clinton was to win the race for the presidency. Thirteen years later, the San Diego resident has finally premiered a new version of the piece in time for today’s inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Newly renamed “Madam (Vice) President,” the jaunty 5-minute march debuted online Sunday to honor former California Sen. Kamala Harris, who today will be sworn in as America’s first female vice president. Read more...

It will also be shared at 6:00 a.m. Monday morning on Facebook. But please don't limit yourself to those times - it's available 24/7.

UK Vaccination Site at Cathedral
Episcopal News Service
On January 16, Salisbury Cathedral in England opened its doors for the first time as a venue for the Sarum South Primary Care Network COVID-19 Local Vaccination Service.

Scores of over senior citizens came along to have their first COVID-19 shot – and all done to the sound of music. The cathedral’s organists, director of music David Halls and assistant director of music John Challenger, played soothing sounds to those waiting for, or recovering from, their shots and clocked up around 10 hours on the keyboards (with a few essential breaks). Parish Office Closure
Enhanced safety for staff
Our offices are closed per State of California orders. This means that only staff may be in the building. There is a basket with bulletins and formation resources by the front door, so don't hesitate to stop by to make a pick-up! However, we will be unable to let anyone inside. The phone will continue to be answered during office hours from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and all of the staff may be reached via email! In a pastoral emergency, you may contact Mtr. Regan Schutz (503) 915-5755 or Deacon Tom Morelli (619) 838-3218. Here is a link to our contact page.
