Juneteenth Recap: What an Awesome Weekend!

The City of Deerfield Beach's inaugural Juneteenth Celebration began last Friday night with a banquet at the Doubletree by Hilton. Robin Larson and Gail Schmidt attended along with Pastor David Potter and Cantor Kurt Schmidt to represent Zion. As one of the only churches present, we were honored to be part of the celebration, to learn more about the history of this day, and to reaffirm our commitment for both diversity and inclusion in our community, neighborhood, and church.

The celebration continued on Saturday with a parade and family fun day. Zion represented again with our signature prayer wall and a beanbag toss with prizes for kids. We ran out of prizes for the beanbag toss, we made more community connections, we heard people’s prayers, and we survived the heat! Special thanks to all those who volunteered a part of their day on behalf of Zion: Nick, Penny, Kylie, Geoffrey, Drew, Bruce, Robin, Gail, and Kurt.

We are continuing to pray for all those names on "prayer strips" in our worship on Sunday mornings. Plan to join us as we pray for the real needs of our neighbors.
