As we end our 58th year of serving children and adults with developmental disabilities, we continue to weather the COVID-19 storm like so many others. We are thankful to our donors, supporters, vendors and the federal and state government agencies for all of their support during these very challenging times.
Now as we turn our focus to the future, it is time for us to begin planning for the replacement of our Early Learning Center, which opened in 1970. We are in need of an up-to-date facility that can support new and innovative teaching techniques. We are hopeful to break ground in the next 5 years and begin the next chapter at Irene Wortham Center, Inc. In addition, many of our other facilities and homes are showing signs of wear and we have begun to repair and replace where needed.
Thanks to many years of strong financial stewardship, and with the continued support of our donors, we have a solid base of funding to prepare for the next 58 years of serving folks from Buncombe and surrounding counties. We have seen through this pandemic the importance of the programs we provide - especially the need for quality Early Learning Centers that support families as they work, attend classes, help their older children with online learning, and so many other things parents have on their plates on a daily basis.
Our hope and goal is to be here ready and able to serve our consumers and community for many years to come!
With much gratitude and appreciation,
