A place for Seekers

The faith in which I was reared was full of seekers and exiles: The Hebrews had a history of living in exile; the story of Exodus is a kind of exile story; Abraham and Sarah were sent into exile; the prophets were usually exiles of one kind or another; even Jesus and his earliest followers–women, slaves, and other oppressed people—were all exiled from place, position, power. The history of Christianity, too, is a story of spiritual movements driven by exiles–mendicant monks and nuns, travelers and pilgrims, and such.
The Christine Center is a place made for seekers. There is no dogma here. Journeys are not judged. We not only accept spiritual evolution, we encourage and celebrate it. Spirituality here is related to movement, flow, growth, change. On a spiritual path, you never get there, because there is no “there.”
Our view at the Christine Center is that seekers, exiles, wanderers, nomads and nones are safe here, welcome here, cherished here. They don’t need to be converted or corrected. In an era marked by our harsh judgments of one another—from how you pray to who you love and even what you ate for lunch—a place like this is as refreshing as it is rare.
I discovered here is a vibrant spirituality of movement and exploration, and it’s a spirit I am committed to growing. I’m counting on you to help.

Autumn’s Wisdom: A Restorative Yoga Retreat with Rev. Shannon Michael Pater, PsyD. E-RYT 500
September 12 – 14 (Wednesday-Friday)
Tuition: $ 150, plus meals and lodging

The Vernal Equinox is one of the two brief moments of balance between the day and the night; it serves as the portal to autumn, a season of depth, release and restoration. Even the red, orange and yellow colors of the leaves reflect the grounding of the root and lower chakras. The wisdom of the trees can guide us in letting go and composting the soil of our soul.
In this retreat, participants will have the opportunity to:
  • Explore the gifts of Autumn and the grounding of the Yamas in facilitated conversations;
  • Use the generous landscape, intuitive painting studio, labyrinth and spiritual practices of the Christine Center;
  • Integrate insights, questions and awakenings through a daily trauma-informed restorative yoga practice;
  • Set a sankalpa (sacred intention) for the upcoming season at the end of the retreat.

Change, Chaos and Contentment
September 17 – 19 (Monday-Wednesday)
With Lama Yeshe
Tuition: $125, plus meals and lodging

The Buddha often talked about impermanence, that everything is constantly changing. We know the good times don’t last and our bodies don’t either. However the bad times also don’t last and because of impermanence we can grow and change. Appreciation and gratitude, love and compassion, and wisdom help us develop contentment in spite of the chaos. This program will explore the ideas and methods found in Buddhism that will lead to experiencing more satisfaction and contentment in life. It will include talks, discussion, sitting, walking and guided meditation plus meditation instruction. Hearing about contentment is good. Experiencing it through hearing, contemplation and meditation is better. There will be an opportunity to have an optional private audience with Lama Yeshe.  Learn More

Hilde-Fest 2018: Coming to our Spiritual Senses
Our 7 th annual celebration of the Spirit of St. Hildegard of Bingen
Humanity, take a good look at yourself.  Inside, you’ve got heaven and earth, and all of creation. You’re a world—everything is hidden in you.  – St. Hildegard of Bingen
Friday evening, September 21 to Sunday mid-day, September 23, 2018
Tuition: $250 (Early registration is $200 through August 31st) Room and board are additional.

With Sister Gabriele Uhlein, OSF, Ph.D.

  • Special presentations by Sister Gabe on Friday evening and Saturday morning offer vibrant ways in which the 12th century St. Hildegard can nourish a 21st century mystic clarity.
  • Our annual weekend celebration “of all things Hildegard” is perfect for newcomers as well as for those who have a long-time experience of her life and world view.  This year we honor contemplative “sensing” and “making sense” of God’s goodness and ever-greening grace.
  • We will taste, smell, hear, and see, opening our senses to all that mirrors God and affirms Presence and Beauty. Saturday afternoon features a special sampling of St. Hildegard’s favorite herbs and spices and an experience of her healing use of semi-precious stones.

With Delmarie Gibney, FSPA and Lucia Leck, M.Ed.
Tuition: $150, plus meals and lodging

Join us in exploring aging as nature’s way of luring us deep into the discovery of who we are, bringing us to the pinnacle of our personal and spiritual development. Hosted close to the time of the spring and fall equinoxes, when life is either budding forth or being harvested, we focus on our own aging process. We look back at who we have been or forward to who we are becoming.
