Annual Teacher Awards

2012 Teacher Awards

Each year, 9/11 Tribute Center awards several $500 gifts to schools that engage their students in innovative projects that explore a variety of aspects of September 11th including the large-scale humanitarian response. This year, we hope to also recognize projects that have used the volunteer spirit of 9/11 to discuss the nature of the recovery effort in our region following Superstorm Sandy.

As a result of the storm, the Tri-State area is still recovering from widespread flooding and power outages. Many students have witnessed the region struggle during this tragedy and also recover thanks to countless volunteers, not unlike September 11th.

We encourage you to share your 9/11 projects with us by sending a description to education@tributewtc.org by January 25, 2013. Please be sure to include your name, school, school address, grade of students, and contact information.

Visiting Tribute

We would like to invite you and your students to visit the

9/11 Tribute Center. We offer self-guided or guided visits led by the education staff through our galleries that display primary source material such as objects recovered from the World Trade Center site, personal quotations, photographs, and video and audio recordings.

The visits culminate in speaking with a Tribute Guide who shares his or her own powerful 9/11 story, emphasizing the value of community service during the recovery period and empower students to make a difference in their own communities.

New York City Public Schools are FREE

January, February, March, & April 2013.

We encourage you to schedule a visit for your students as soon as possible as space is limited. This program is available Monday - Friday, between the hours of 10am and 1pm from January to April of 2013. Click here for program information.
