New Hampshire streamlines benefit for older adults

As of July 1, 2025, New Hampshire has instituted the Elderly Simplified Application Project (ESAP) for the state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Thanks to the efforts of groups like New Hampshire Hunger Solutions. lawmakers and community members, this policy will increase the efficiency of SNAP and reduce food insecurity.

With this new legislation in place, eligible applicants will submit recertification only every 36 months (3 years), replacing the annual process. Recertification paperwork will also be simplified so that households receive a prepopulated form to sign and send back unless income has changed or a household requests an interview. These changes make it simpler and easier for older adults and those with disabilities to access food in the Granite State.

National award demonstrates how a ride can change a life

Newport Housing Authority recently received a national award for “A Ride Can Change A Life”, a program made possible through a partnership with Age-Friendly Rhode Island, Looking Upwards, the Edward King House Senior Center and Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA).

The program provides free, on-demand transportation to residents of Newport Housing Authority and several other senior housing communities across Aquidneck Island. The service helps older adults travel to medical appointments and essential destinations, significantly supporting their independence, access, and overall well-being.

New funding from SOW-CT responds to nonprofit needs
